I don't think many people are chasing the regular Bourbon County Stout

There's no added sugar, but that malt you're talking about provides plenty.

Depends on your area. All stores here were 1 bottle limit, no coffee showed up, super small amounts of BW and regal. All of it was gone within a few hours. Nothing is just sitting on floors on a shelf anywhere here. Our area would be very happy to get extra regular.

Yeah, BCBS isn't exactly on the drier side of BA stouts.

Now its microbeers, a few years ago it was bourbon, before that it was cigars... next year we'll be chasing saki ---who cares I say, have fun with it, go for the gold at no expense, let the masses drink crap-beer, cheap whisky, and smoke cigar-turds (and kid themselves its just as good!),....and if you can't abuse your family who can you abuse?!

The OP's story sounds pretty extreme compared to many other's Bourbon County stories, but yes, I feel that the beer or release of the beer has been completely ruined by the hype involved as well as many people's antics and excessive wanting of this beer.

It's one thing to wait in line for a rare beer, it almost sounds like cheating to get other people to wait for you. And racking up the prices is a whole other sad offense we are seeing more and more of- which is only making it harder to find these beers and making the situation worse.

I literally watched tons of people pass up much better options while standing in line for Bourbon county this year. the owner of the store I was in offered me discounted prices on three bombers I purchased instead, for the simple fact that I realized those options were at least as good, and didn't fall under all of the hype and craze everyone else was that day.

Yeah, this is absolutely a goofy regional phenomenon. I don't think all the beer stores in Ann Arbor (big beer town, pop 115,000) combined got that much regular.

I would absolutely chase Regular - it might be might my favorite beer. I only managed to get a single bottle, and paid $16 for it. It's frustrating to hear stories like "25 cases sitting on the floor" when it's so insanely limited around here.

yeah and its pretty ridiculous in all cases but atleast those people are waiting in line for the TVs, they are usually doing it to get a better deal not to pay outrageous amounts of money for something. so its a bit different.

I've had them side by side...obviously BCBS is a different beer with more complexity and intensity. I compared it to Dragon's Milk solely as an example of one I found to have a similar, if not quite as impressive, flavor profile which can be found year-round at a much lower price point. The suggestion is much appreciated though!

With all due respect, I don't think AB InBev is killing any part of Goose Island.

I'll take it. Please send it to me. The other 4 variants aren't that good this year. Pure hype and once traded for people want to believe that they got their moneys or beers worth. The rare is hot and thin, the coffee is green pepper, the regal is cough syrup, and the prop...well it continues to disappoint since the 2013. If this is where GI BC is headed, I'll pick it up purely to trade for regular or non GI BC in the future.

Yep, people were up in arms when In-Bev fired the shot across the bow of craft beer drinkers during Super Bowl. Now the execs are laughing their asses of at the lengths craft beer drinkers are going to for BC.

To each their own... I don't doubt it would be a lot different after a year. But understand that the longest I've ever "cellared" something is probably about a month. :grinning: That has more to do with the market here and availability than it does my own desire, though.

Couldn't tell ya. I was reporting on my perception of the taste profile, not guessing at ingredients.

It may also just be me... I've noticed several beers - even old favorites - are seeming more sickly sweet lately. Meh. Guess I'm getting old.
