Man u said it perfect. I am sick of people on their high horses too. Part of the fun is the hunt, at least for me and it sounds like for the OP as well. So I spent $1K this weekend on BCS bottles. So what? People say it's hoarding. Hoarding is the act of keeping stuff without the willingness of getting rid of it. I get rid of it in my belly and my friends! Do whatever u wqnt. Buy it, hold it and sell it later for more, drink it, share it with friends, whatever. U bought it, it's urs. People think it's soooo awful to buy beer and then sell it. Whatever. The market dictates actions. If people are doing it then the market is allowing. People take beer too seriously.

OK, there's no "might be" about it: dragging your loved ones out of bed to stand for 5 hours in a cold line for the sole purpose of hoarding beer is a terrible and destructive thing to do.

Please, take care of the people who love you enough to do this kind of stupid shit for you. Forget the limited releases. Collecting can be fun, but not when it hurts those around you. It's nowhere near worth it. People are forever, but beer is just stupid sugar water.

    $230? Holy shit balls.

Reading this thread makes me A) Thankful that my local shop doesn't price gouge whatsoever and B) Feel a lot less shitty about the amount that I've spent on beer lately... the $15 bomber I bought the other day? Child's play!

I spent between $8 and $13 for 3 bottles of the regular and I'll probably buy one or two more this week (bottles being held at bottle shop pending delivery from distributor). I'm basically a cheapskate. Typically, the more I pay for something the less I enjoy it because I resent how much I paid. I honestly don't think I could enjoy a bottle of beer having paid $60 for it. Objectively speaking, it could be the best beer in the world but I would still not enjoy it at that price.

I have had BCBS exactly once. In a bar with plenty of seating available, no limit, and fairly priced for what it actually is.
I am absolutely certain that I am not the reason that the BCBS is completely out of control, but I have seen many of the reasons in this post.
And if I ever found some of the stupid shit I here about at bottle shops I would just quit shopping there.
Unfortunately for people who just want to enjoy great beer, I don't think the insanity will be ending any time soon.

I agree. Granted, I would hope people would walk away from a store trying to sell two bottles for $230, but if someone has the money and wants to buy it, it's no different then any other hobby or collectible in the market. As you said, the market dictates the prices. It's unfortunate there are people trying to take advantage by overpricing sought after beers, but it's the same thing if I want to go to a Seahawks game out here. Unless I am lucky enough to get tickets when they are first released most likely I will end up spending hundreds above asking price on the tickets. But if I am enjoying myself than who cares? And I also agree about hoarders. If you are hoarding to drink eventually then I see no problem with that at all. I think it's unfortunate that some hoard simply to sell at outrageous prices, but nothing much can be done about that.

I guess I am lucky that the beer shops I frequent out here were offering BCBS at retail prices.

There is a certain control aspect one needs to instill in themselves, and create their own limit.

For my area, 3 varieties. 2 bottle limit of BCBCS, 1 of BW, and 1 of RYE. The variants sold out within the first 20 people. Had I called in some non beer friends, and maybe my wife, mother in law, or cousin to be that "next" person in line is where the line can be drawn for some. Maybe I show up 15 minutes earlier and miss out on breakfast with some friends (lets call off breakfast early and tell them I got somewhere to be lol). Every person has their limits

For me, 25 min in line. 2 BCBS, some other local brews being offered for first time, and I was off to the next place. 1 bottle limit at next place. My job was DONE. When it was all said and done, 1 hour and 15 miles of gas and wear and tear spent on beer.. Where it can become compulsive is where I could have went to that third place with BCBS, or had my family travel with me back to the first and second places. I heard rumors that non craft centric places got it in too. But at what expense? I've been lucky that I haven't had to work in the morning of Black Friday, so I can generally make it.. For the people that do work, this sort of running around and calling truly sucks because of the people who hoard. But it becomes neccersary. I could see how some would have to run around to 6 stores before finding one bottle, and then that 7th place offering up some bottles to that "desperate man" with the desperate eyes who is willing to pay anything.

    It's tough out there

"The market" is a bubble. I hope it bursts. Sooner rather than later. Then things will go back to the way they were for me 10 years ago!

The sheep are being herded. This is big business and a lot of idiots making a big spectacle of bourbon county will soon end up on the news like the Wal Mart ppl on Black Friday.

Not sure Bourbon County is "ruined" especially since I can get the regular where I live. Feel for you guys that got the variants, but like everything else it changes

Also, on Black Friday, I was out getting coffee and was right next to a total wine, I stopped in for a minute to ask if they were selling BCBS. They only had the regular, and they were selling 1 per person, and it was selling for $11.99. The fact that they raised the price a single dollar from the suggested retail price made me not buy it, plus the new bottle size and dollar per ounce has made me reject their bottles. I will drink enough on draft and have a good time doing that when out and about and stumble upon it. Won't be buying BC bottles anymore. A good thing has been ruined indeed. The days of relatively well priced 4 packs have come to an end. Now Black Friday pandemonium and price gouging.

That's illogical, the very definition of price gouging is a seller spikes the prices of goods, services or commodities to a level much higher than is considered reasonable or fair, and is considered exploitative, potentially to an unethical extent. Regardless of the fact that it is essential or luxury, there is no rational justification for a 50% markup over retail price other than increasing a retailer's profit margin. I searched for Rare in NYC, one retailer asked $125 for the bottle, I declined and went to another who sold it to me for $59.99. The every fact that I can find fair pricing just as others would disprove your justification. As limited as this product maybe it is not the sole product, what the seller is attempting to do is establish a premium over MSRP to take advantage of the relsease craze. I'm a firm believe in looking at all available options whether it be a beer trade or finding another retailer. However, if a customer is unwilliing to do his/her due diligence he/she is at the mercy of seller and thus is prey to the broker's addage "price is what the buyer is willing to pay".

Screw Black Friday. I got mine on Saturday but also had to wait in line. Those two guys in front of me at the register seemed to take forever to pay. Truth told, I would have waited in that line even if it was three or four people long.

    Holy shit that is bad.

And no BCBS for me. I'm in Utah and the beer will never make it into Mormon county. At least I am able to enjoy a nice Big Bad Baptist thanks to Epic.
