I remember posting this years and years ago, on the old BA, and was interested in the vary replies. So now, with the inclusion of the poll feature, I thought it'd be fun to have another go.

Your first beer: did you actually like it? When did you have it? What was it? Did you keep at it, or give up on it for a while before trying your next one? It seems that beer is largely an acquired taste - let's see what the polls have to say!

For me, I couldn't stomach more than about an ounce of my first one - a Harp Lager, straight from the bottle. If my best friend and older brother weren't both beer geeks, I probably would've never even tried another beer. Good thing they turned me around!

If your buddies told you it was good, it was well-reviewed. If they told you it was shit, but it was the only thing they could nick from their dad's icebox, it was not-well-reviewed

I used to get sips from dad when we were out cutting wood. Olympia beer. Didn't care for it at all, but heck, I was around 12 or 13 so damn right I would have some.
Then when the peer pressure stepped in a couple years down the road, the drinking started and I DID NOT LIKE the taste at all, but liked the buzz.
We live in a world of compromise, so I eventually caved and started enjoying it and found that Michelob was this teens favorite. Now? Can't drink Pilsners, or the like. I like flavor, I'm grown up now...HA!

I was 5 years old when I tasted my first beer. I was allowed to have a single sip of Busch beer while at Busch Gardens in Florida. I promptly spat it out on the sidewalk to the great amusement of the adults present. 1970.

A high school trip into the woods with friend for the express purpose of drinking resulted in me discreetly dumping out about 3/4 of a can of some macro. 1983.

I may have had a couple of little sips at other times, but it wasn't until I went to a BJ's brewery in 2000 that I ever had more than a few sips of a beer. That visit and a taster flight turned me on to beer and I haven't looked back.

Short version: none of the answer choices above fit my experience.

Update: I suppose the first beer I finished was a BJ's Tatonka Stout, so I'll vote based on that.

I am from Tampa and remember the Busch Gardens hospitality tent well.

Really need to have a fifth choice that says, "It was a BMC and I hated it but acted like it was good."

Reason I say this is because I know myself and many of my friends had there first beer be a bud with their dad, or a natty in high school to seem cool.

My first beer was before beer reviews. But I still remember that I was hooked.

It was a Hop Devil ale, and I thought it was the most bitter, vile, mouth-puckering swill on the planet.

Now it is one of my favorite IPA's and I could easily drink 2 or 3.

Amazing how your palate develops and matures.

My first was a Bud, in freakin' college, haha. I didn't even care to try beer until that point. And surprisingly, I thought it was OK. I woudln't exactly say I was hooked, but I enjoyed it enough to have more. It took me many years of BMC before I opened up into the craft scene. Haven't had a BMC in years...

Mt first beer was Budweiser sometime in the early '80s. My father would let me have "sips" of his while he was grilling out. Sips would easily turn into half the can. I remember thinking it was the most delicious thing I had ever tasted. I can still taste it in my mind but unfortunately, Budweiser just doesn't taste the same to me now.

My first beer was a Miller Lite. Me and my friends snuck some downstairs during a sleepover when I was young. I couldn't stand the taste (probably because it was Miller Lite) so I mixed it with Mountain Dew. I'm not proud of it, but yeah... that happened. We all got drunk off of Mountain Lite's.

Pretty sure there was no such thing as a beer review when I drank my first beer. I think it was a tallboy Budweiser with the giant pull tab. My best friend and I were about 10 years old and ours dads let us have one on a fishing trip.

I was in college when I had my first beer. Actually come to think of it I hadn't had any alcohol at all before. Embarrassingly enough, my girlfriend was drinking a beer I decided to try it... I about spit it out of my mouth (Keystone Light; great college beer). I had her go get me a wine cooler so I didn't have to be the one to ask for it. I came around eventually but it was just about as sad an intro into beer as one could have I believe.

Can of Budweiser for me. I remember it being so harsh and bitter. I was very curious about beer and I knew that much better beer existed. It's weird because it wasn't good, yet at the same time I knew I was a beer drinker and wanted to try more. But yeah, beer was definitely an acquired taste for me and I'm very glad I stuck with it.

I had my first beer on my 21st birthday...a Sam Adams Winter Lager. I had a hard time finishing it, but there was something in it that made me want to try more. I had another one a couple of days later and loved it.

It was either American or Japanese lager. I didn't care for it much; didn't hate or like it. So, I gravitated towards wine and mixed drinks for the longest time. The first "real" craft beer I tried was Pliny. I didn't like Pliny at first because it was so different and bitter from anything else I had up to that point. I researched Pliny and Russian River, and then took an interest in craft beers. Now, I rarely drink wine. Role reversal.

My first beer was probably Budweiser and I remember guzzling it whenever dad would give me a "sip" or I snuck it... Loved it! Not Bud so much these days but still love me my beer!

Ahh, Birra Moretti when I was 17 out in Tuscany. It was so damn refreshing on a hot day. I tried it a few years later and it is still a refreshing lager.
