The title is just for the attention. But read the article at the link to see how it relates

My real question is what do people think of the flavor of green coffee beans? And how would you go about incorporating them into a beer?

I think there are a couple of home coffee roasters on this site. So if you are, have you ever tried a green bean? If not, you should. It has a nice spicey flavor and aroma to it. It dawned on me that flavors may work well in a saison. Try one and post your impression.

Also, what would be a good way to incorporate it into a brew? I'm afraid boiling them might extract the wrong flavors. But I'll give it a try. Maybe just a quick soak in alcohol and dump in the primary?

And now that I see it may also help with weight loss, perhaps there's an opportunity to develop a better tasting diet beer for men. All of those beer bellies can be easily removed by simply drinking more beer.

Never bit into a green bean, but I get that spiciness from their aroma...

Hmmm... I would suggest you make a few test tinctures (a 'tea', a vodka soak, dry bean a bit of beer) and see what makes the most sense for the flavours you experienced. Most interesting...

hmm...just tried a bean. Can't say I got much flavor besides an ever so slight bitterness...almost cracked a tooth in the process too :grimacing:
They definitely have a nutty, earthy, musty & slightly spicy aroma. I'll give a +1 to the tincture idea, grinding some up and see where it goes.
Edit: fwiw i have a ethiopian yrgacheffe & a costa rican bean

I plan to smash some with a hammer to break open and cold soak overnight in some busch light, then do a side by side tomorrow (with and without)

the flavor & aroma of corn might overpower the green bean...just sayin

As JimmyTango predicted the 'without' was the winner.

The green beans have a very nice spicey aroma to them that did transfer to the beer, but the flavor left behind is too earthy. It was very dank and dirty. It had some spiciness to it but the earthiness overpowered it.

I used Costa Rica beans, maybe I'll try some Kenyan and Sumatra next to see if they are any better before I close the book on this one.

procedure: 10g crushed beans in 4 oz busch light, and 20g crushed beans in 4 oz BL, and 4 oz BL control. Put in fridge for 24 hours and then sampled. There was a significant flavor intensity difference between the 10g and 20g samples, aroma was about the same.
