Am drinking Long Trail Limbo and sipping Heady Topper at the same time- please tell me the difference- besides the obvious.

No. Limbo's a fine IPA, but it's not even close to Heady.

    Trolls gonna troll.

Limbo is missing the mid palate and finish of Heady. Limbo is a good beer, but as we all know/will find out it isn't HT!

This calls for an unbiased approach
Find half dozen IPA lovers who've had neither Heady nor Limbo
Blind taste test, the only way to settle it

If this is a world class AIPA I will be in 7th heaven,
    especially the saving time part.

I dont mind paying a bit more for world class, but...
I dont want to jump thru hoops
I dont want to wait in lines
I dont want to trade or share
or drive to the Northeast Kingdom to get great, fresh, AIPA

Skeptical, but I'm rooting for you Long Trail...this could be your chance to change my mind.

I've tasted both within the last 8-9 days and find them quite different. Heady has a nicer malt character and magnitudes more hop flavor/aroma, especially aroma. Limbo is at the upper end of single IPAs, and constructed to be there, IMO, so this comparison is a bit apples and oranges. Limbo is excellent but not quite up there with the big 3. A more apt comparison might be Union Jack (go ahead, call me crazy, I expect it).

That would work for me. Something similar to UJ that hits the area fresh is all upside - for me this could be a game changer for Long Trail (I can't recall the last time I purchased anything from them.) I'm looking forward to it.

I still like Double Bag, and some of the Brewmaster's series have been good as well, but I agree Limbo is stepping it up a bit.

This conversation should not even be occuring. I have had both many times and there are more differences than similarities.

Over the weekend I had HF Edward at the Whetstone in Brattleboro and was not overly impressed. I don't want to start another argument but I find Lawson's better than HT and HF.

Limbo does not have the huge pine and tropical fruit overload or the slick mouthfeel like HT and Double Sunshine. I don't think HT uses the Galaxy and Mosaic hops that Limbo uses. I wouldn't doubt Long Trail held back a bit.... they're making a year-round, widely distributed beer, they most likely want hop-heads to be satisfied and give non-ipa junkies something to get their feet wet. I'd say they accomplished that. I know plenty of people who don't like Heady Topper because 'its too much' and in my eyes, this is a good compromise.

Limbo is definitely good, but people should not expect a Heady Topper-like beer.
