I was wondering if anyone could comment on the difference between the various Bomb releases? How many have there been? What are the wax colors for each release? Any difference between the levels of chile/coffee/etc that can be detected in each release? I have pink and blue and was just wondering what differences I can look forward to and what other releases are out there. Thanks!

    Batches are as follows:
    1. Gold wax
    2. Red wax
    3. Blue wax
    4. Pink wax
    5. Orange wax
They're all the same beer though.

Red and Blue were both batch 2 although untapped classifies them as different batches.

No wax was part of Batch 2. I'm not sure if any of the other batches have had no wax.

So the one that came out last week is orange wax?

Has anyone in TX seen the batch that was released last week? I know it hit stores in OK but I haven't been able to find it at any stores in DFW yet.

Takes time to get down here. If it just hit stores in OK last week then it won't be here for another week or two.

Assuming the "orange wax" batch might have no wax bottles as well, since Chase said Arkansas is seeing distribution along with OK, TX, and CA. Bomb is sold in 4-packs in AR due to their liquor laws and previous four packs were not waxed.

Not that it matters all that much, but are we sure that Red and Blue are the same batch?

Red was release in early/mid August and the Blue was released in late September. Oklahoma has seen every other batch thus far - Gold, Blue, and Orange...so has me thinking Red and Blue are in fact separate batches.

Only reason to keep track is so you know how much the coffee and chilis may have faded when you drink it, as everyone has mentioned...

I heard they ran out of red and continued with blue wax.

I've found every batch to be different. Not just fading reasons.

i've found batch to batch variability, bottle to bottle in the same batch variability, and draft/bottle in the same batch variability.

    beer is neat like that.

    (craft beer at least)

(or it could be other environmental factors)

I'm not an expert , but I feel like chiles alone could have pretty significant variability

Pink wax has more vanilla than others I've tasted.

    That's why I love discussion.

I found it to be all chocolate all the time. Slight hint of coffee, but nothing like in the past. Little to no vanilla or chilies in there.

I definitely got a very, very reasonable combination of all of the flavors on my last bottle (pink wax; two weeks ago). The vanilla was a little light, but I was very happy with the levels of coffee and pepper. Just enough chocolate to go well with those flavors, too.

In any case, way, way better than on draught. All coffee there, until it gets to around room temperature--even then, it's still mostly coffee, and a bit of chocolate and pepper. Don't recall much vanilla, but maybe I'm off.

EDIT: I don't mean to complain about the draught version--it was still very good, and I still drank something like half a gallon of it over winter break.

Any idea of when the new batch will be available in Houston?

I'm hoping this week but I've learned that patience is a key when a beer lover lives in Houston.

According to the Favorite Brands rep that I talked to, it'll be here this week.
