I'm showing my age...110, 220, and 440 circuits used to always have mechanical contactors

I'm just assuming that most all modern temperature controllers use these. I use an array of SSRs (solid state relays) in my system controlled by an embedded control concepts controller (BCS460). I have 120V relays for pumps and some 240V for water heater elements. The micro side is 5V DC

I've installed a number of these with good luck. Get one that has an adjustable differential. If you shop around you can find this for about $90 new, cheaper used. I wouldn't set your differential for 1 deg., (4 or 5 is better. )It could make the compressor come on too often and may cause it to go off on internal overload.

I'll set it to 2. I can get a 3 degree range with frozen 2 liters and a tupperware bin. Otherwise, there's no point in using a fridge.

A fridge is easier to use than the bin. The point is that for what you are doing, a critical setting of 1 or 2 isn't necessary. That is usually reserved for specialized laboratory applications. Domestic refrigerators shouldn't cycle that often.

That is why the Johnson Digital controllers come with an Anti-Short Cycle Delay function.

Yup, it happened again last night. I got a temp on the 1/2 growler full of starsan (blowoff water) and it was way down in the 50's. The Readout was all over the place around 95-101F. I shook it and the fridge continued to run. So frustrating.

I had the same thing happen recently to my red bull fridge. I replaced the digital control system with the control I mentioned a few posts above this one. Hopefully it will be more dependable. ( so far so good )
