Am I evil in hoping he takes the $40k and disappears?

In all seriousness though, while some of you are whimsical with your money, I'm just not willing to finance the trials and tribulations of a home brewer moving to industrial brewing. That's what investors are for. That's not what my beer money is for. With so much great beer out there, and well priced memberships, I just don't see the point.

I never get the hate for places that aren't yet open. Seems some people have never heard of the concept "don't knock it til you've tried it".

I understand yours and others apprehensions. The easiest way to not waste your money on the unknown is to not give the money and let others who genuinely ARE excited about something new (like me) give their money. After a year of the membership and the brewery being open only then can we give our full verdict.

Yes its gambling, but if this is the next big thing, then I'll be proud to say I supported them from the beginning.

ITT: People complaining about beers they've never tried and using that as a reason to not support local homebrewers.

Don't want to spend 200 on a the possibility of having an awesome sour producer in your backyard? Cool, don't buy it.

What you shouldn't be doing is talking down to people who want to support local brewers, last I checked this was Beer Advocate, not Beer Elitist

Someone like you, who wants to support a local brewer and hope that it becomes something big that you can frequent, makes sense. While I don't really care about Kyle either way, I give him credit for sending out a lot of beers on his own dime so people got to try it. I go back to my original statement though.

It is amazing as to how many people want to throw $200 at a guy who doesn't really have much of a plan. There's no solid plan for a tasting room, no license and he only very recently started barrel aging things. I'm glad he finally got his website in order, but if you looked at it a couple weeks ago, it read like a 3rd grader wrote it. There's a lot of variables and huge hurdles people should consider before throwing $200 to someone.

Do you have any arguments that aren't of the strawman variety? No one is bashing the beers, people are questioning the wisdom of throwing money at a brewery that has yet to get their license and has a rather ambiguous plan.

Edit: Apparently they do have their license. The core point about throwing money at homebrewers going pro stands, but it's an argument that's been run through a few times now. Best of luck to them.

I understand. Kyle is only a part owner and one of the brewers. There is another brewer as well as a main investor/business person that will be running the business side. They actually DO have their ABC license and are only waiting on TTB label approval.

Good for them, but the last blowup from when Simon asked if they were legit that later got deleted revealed that they weren't licensed. That's a pretty big hurdle if true.

Iggy doing the research. Damn haha so they have no plans for a tasting room and few people have tried the beers. Sounds like casa all over again.

lol, except if they actually do blow up, then most of that beer is gonna be heading outside the state via FedEx and UPS. If it's mediocre then, well, enjoy.

Had some of the pilot beers thanks to a friend and was not impressed at all. They'll do fine since Bakersfield is... Bakersfield, but I don't think they're on a $20/bottle level or even close yet.

I bought in. Yes it's a gamble. I totally get why people would want to wait and see how it plays out before investing anything but I a friend who has tried his beers and said they were legit and I trust him. I don't disagree that the website is pretty low tech but I don't care about that. As long as he can brew what he said he would deliver and it's decent than I'll consider this a worthy investment.

This has been the down fall of so many breweries. I hope they all have a great understanding.

I am trying to understand how these guys get no hate whatsoever and Casa Agria got raked over the coals. Casa Agria also had pilot batches floating around and sent out to people, yet everyone hated.

So these guys have a failed kickstarter. Charge $100 less for a pseudo bottle club, and no one bats an eye.

I guess Casa should have taken up with that band of ******s on SABAE Facebook group to avoid all the heat.

and don't get me wrong, i don't root for anyone to fail. i just don't understand the difference.

I think CASA beer actually defends them on its own. I know nothing changed since the last shitstorm, but things will definitely change very soon, when first beers get out there.

That's a good point. I was always amazed by the overly positive feedback on that FB group. Weird.

I'd like to support another Central Valley brewer, but I just couldn't do it without tasting the beer, or knowing anyone who has. At least House of Pendragon had beer on tap around Fresno and Visalia before they asked for handouts on Kickstarter to open their taproom. I'd really prefer to see breweries follow that example.
