Here's what the lineup was yesterday. We had 15 tasters while enjoying college football. Palate was cleansed with salt free crackers.
    DFH 90 Minute
    Double Trouble
    Brooklyn Blast
    Rushing Duck War Elephant

    Results:
    DFH 90: 5
    Double Trouble: 5
    War Elephant: 3
    Brooklyn Blast: 2

Nope, just found some fresh 4-packs at my local grocer. I was surprised, to say the least, but I picked up all three. :grinning:

I don't always drink fresh DIPAs, but when I do I prefer them to be 3 months old .

It doesn't work that way lol. It may be more fresh than something older than it (obviously) but that doesn't make it fresh. It just makes it less old than something else.

    Freshness is not relative.

Hmmm. Those are all very different tasting DIPAs. They each have their own thing going on. Really hard to compare them other than just by personal preference. For sheer hoppiness, I'd think War Elephant would take the prize, especially with DT being so old. DFH 90 is one of my faves, but for the smooth balance. Blast has its own hop thing going on.

OP, what some of these guys are getting at is that many, if not most AIPAs and IIPAs are best consumed within 3 months of bottling. Some brews are more senstive than others, and some can sit for a year and still taste fine, but it is rare. (storage temperatue and light exposure must also be taken into consideration) It sounds like a little bit much to be concerned with all that, but that is the nature of the beast.

In the case of Double Trouble, that is a very citrus'y oriented IIPA (Simcoe, Centennial and Amarillo hops iir) and sadly, that is one of the first flavors to fall off over time. So if that citrus flavor does indeed fall off like it should, all you are left with is a sweet malty mess. If your Founders DT was that good to you now, months after bottling, imagine how it will taste next year when you snag a 2 week old bottle!

You do realize that he consumed it within your 90 deadline.

I just mean it really isn't fresh anymore regardless of when things fall off. Anything older than a month isn't really "fresh" still to me. It may still be good or not be good, but don't say it is fresh if it isn't is the point people are trying to make. OP said it wasn't months old even though he found bottles that were almost 3 months past the freshness date.

I think Founders has a bottling date, not a freshness date. So if that is the case, the bottle was almost 3 months old and likely within the consumption recommendations.

I was just going by what was said above in the thread. Regardless, 3 months past the bottling date still is not fresh to me (still being older than a month).

Really? Because I live in NY and DT has been around for close to 3 months now. Thats not fresh, especially for a citrus forward IPA.

Fresh is the Jai Alai I got yesterday canned on 11/07/14
