Had a growler of Dirtwolf for the first time the other night, and it was probably hands down the best DIPA I have ever tasted. I'm trying to figure out what the hop flavor I like is. I'm getting this almost hopped up pilsner flavor that's fresh/fruity. It's a flavor I also got in the Sierra Nevada Yakima #291, which is a single hop. It's almost a Prima Pils flavor and it makes the beer very drinkable/smooth/refreshing.

Anyone know what hop this is, and or what other beers it's mainly used in? Cause I absolutely love it.

    From a quick Google search:

Probably. But fresh and fruity could be the Citra.

hmm. if it's more like prima pils, it could be some of what you get from citra or mosaic. simcoe and chinook are primarily bringing the dank/earthy. citra kind of earthy as well, but some orange and other interesting things. mosaic always kind of escapes me.

Does anyone else get a slight onion flavor at the front end? It quickly dissipates into tropical fruit. Weird, but it works. This brew is very good!!

These are the DIPA/IPAs I like, not a fan of the resinous/piny/syrupy ones really.

probably from the chinook, but also could just be combo of citra/simcoe/chinook. i love it.

Awesome beer that I'm lucky enough to live about 10 min from. I was at victory the first week they opened many moons ago and they are a top notch brewery! It's funny how I think we all have great local brews we start to take for granted because we are always looking for the heady toppers, zombie dusts, plinys etc. Not that they aren't great but since they are hard to get we want them like the prom queen! By the way DaltonC you get victory in Idaho or was it a trade?

Some people get blueberries from Mosaic. I think I initially got some tropical fruit and maybe the tiniest hint of lemon. I noticed blueberry only after I read it somewhere so I don't trust my palate to have been free of the effect of suggestion, on that! (though I do get it, now)

I've been making a few batches of home-brew trying to marry the dankness of Columbus with the piney flavor of Chinook as bittering hops, with top-notes from various combinations and amounts and timing of additions of Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo, Centennial...haven't hit the sweet spot yet but these are not bad beers, at all. Favorite so far was 60 min addition of Columbus and Chinook in equal amounts, then a 5 minute addition of Mosaic and Citra, then a 0 minute addition of Mosaic and Citra, then a dry hop of equal amounts of all four. This wasn't a Dirtwolf clone nor intended to be but there were definitely some similarities.
