How often do you find your beer served in a dirty glass? I don't frequent bars much any more (this was in an airport), but seeing a beer like the below kind of grosses me out.

I personally love dirty glassware. I drink all of my beers out of dirty glassware.

OK, fair enough, this is a dumb thread. :flushed: :stuck_out_tongue:

I find lipstick on the rim fairly regularly when out in a nearby area. Not sure of the details, but an area I frequent allows dunking in chemical sanitizer and rinsing as an acceptable form of washing. If the person doing the washing is in a hurry, things like lipstick which are not removed easily remain.

A lot more then I would like! I suggest never going to the Wonder Bar in Casper for this reason alone. It is a shame you come a LONG way to enjoy their brews, and then it is utterly destroyed by dirty glassware....

Way too often. And I don't think this is a dumb thread. I think all beer enthusiasts can agree on the importance of clean glassware. A dirty glass will have a negative impact on every aspect of the beer, making it far from what you paid for. A dirty glass creates flatness, off-flavors, and obviously, bacteria and germs galore. Any bar serving craft beer should expect that patrons are going to be looking for a sparkling clean glass for extremely good reasons. If I'm served beer in a dirty glass at a bar that's supposed to specialize in craft, it's very hard for me to not write the place off completely.

The bubbles clinging to the side of the glass. This signifies contaminated.

Seldom if ever. And then only once at any given bar.

Okay, this happened just now, but it happens often here. This may be off thread because its my fault, not a commercial establishment's fault.
I have an outdoor pizza oven and every so often we host pizza parties. My guests mostly drink from bottles or cans even though I always offer glasses. I mostly drink only from proper glassware as per style. The problem is I am always manipulating dough with dry flour at and... of course..drinking at these events.
I only use plain water or Star San on my glassware. Usually after the parties my wife and I are burnt out (beer does that to you) so we power though clean-up half-ass. I guess you know were this is heading.
Today after a long day working around the house I was looking forward to a Founders Harvest Ale in a Nonic pint glass. Wow, was the outside coated in dry flour! You could really hold the glass without fear of slipping. I assume the inside was clean, but that's no way to drink a beer son. Re-clean (no soap) scrub, scrub, scrub. I am halfway through the Harvest now and its great. I should pay more attention to my glassware after the bashes we have here.

it's all relative. after experiencing the challenges faced on the service side in a developing country (china), one sadly learns to lower expectations...

I can't remember the last time I encountered this problem, but I never seem to run into problems that some BA's seem to often have.

depends on where you go in China though.

There are tons of really high end places that the upper middle class frequent, and then there are the regular family style places for the blue collar working class.

I would say that China in many regards is more further developed than the US in terms of infrastructure, transportation and residential living, but they arent as evelvolved in terms of sanitization standards or food service technology.

Ive never had a dirty glass in China though.

i've been to and/or been behind the scenes at many "high-end" places in china, which serve craft beer, imported wine and/or single malt whisky. price, decor and clientele are unfortunately not always reliable predictors of actual sanitation practices. very few that are egregious, of course, as practically none have been proven to make me or others (that i know of) physically sick as a result, and probably less than a handful where my enjoyment and/or perception of something i was served were unmistakably worsened. but still, many probably might not pass muster according to the highest western or japanese standards.

Nothing turns me off quicker than a beer glass with a gajillion bubbles stuck on the sides.

Any time my roommate does the dishes.

I keep my beer glasses in my room now and clean them by hand on my own time

I like dirty glassware - like the one where I pour the cold beer in and the woman on the glass takes her clothes off.

Ever so often in a public place but I don't care at all. It's a little crazy how much it gets pointed out. I don't believe it alters the taste of the beer but some do.
