I agree with what most people have been saying - while the system was somewhat pointless, I did enjoy getting karma pts and this motivated me to contribute to the site in different ways.

Well with the new mobile friendly site, its not that hard to write a full review, so that concern should be no longer as big an issue. But something tells me people would still complain about any increase.

Poobah wasn't anything I was ever going to put on a resume, but dammit, so close. I think I was 10 points away.

Add another vote for bringing it back.

I don't mean to single you out, but you are the perfect example of why many think the BK system needs overhauled. Close to 16,000 likes for less than 500 posts. 2000+ beer ticks without a single review.

You might well be a great guy, and should our paths cross I would gladly buy you a beer. And I certainly don't mean to insinuate that you can't use the site any way you see fit. But do you deserve poobah status ? Sorry, not in my opinion. (not that that holds much weight).

25 trades completed though. Ultimately, yes everyone use BA the way he wants, everybody Beer Advocate his own way. Some of the best and more prolific beer trader never even posted here. Same with the 'best' reviewers and so on.

I'm certainly not getting my bowels in an uproar, again, it's not like a BA title after your name gets you preferential seating at your favorite restaurant or an upgrade to first class when you fly, but I do feel the need to clarify a few things.
    1) 500 is the number of threads that I've posted in, not the total number of posts, that is probably closer to 5000, just many in the same threads. A lot from the shenanigans in a few BIFs and a bunch from the regional forums where I feel like I can contribute something useful.
    2) As far as reviews, when a beer has been reviewed hundreds if not thousands of times, I seriously doubt that my opinion is going to be the tipping point for someone to try it or not. I give everything an honest numerical rating that gets counted into the overall rating, but really, how many times do need to read that an IPA is dank. Or pithy. I review most of the places that I drink those beers, as I feel that that is something that can be useful to other BAs.
    3) Yes, I am a great guy, modest too. I'd be happy to share a couple of beers with you if I'm ever out your way, same offer stands if you find yourself in the Philly area.

I'd have to agree, I don't think that's how this works.

Well, I've got way more than 500 posts in one thread. Not sure exactly how it's counted.

Agreed. If WBAYDN disappeared, I probably would too. I don't have the chops to contribute to new beer threads, or mention new beers in the market, or discuss bottle releases, or compare Tree House and Trillium's Bourbon County Pliny Zombie Dust to a similar beer because those aren't my things. I enjoy drinking and reviewing good beer.

I do find the interface of the updated site a little difficult to see what's happening in the forums. Mostly because the old hot topics section was dead center and could be seen without scrolling (at least on my computer). Now I have to go seek it out, but this is minor for me, as I usually only browse the WBAYDN thread daily.

LOL-I actually find it hard to stay under 150 when wanting to say a little blurb for myself and not count as a full review.

I think some of the private threads do not count as posts, like at least some BIF threads, which may be the discrepancy (or not).

Are you saying that you've posted 500 times in one thread? Or am I misunderstanding you?

    I agree with this^^^.

I wanted to start by saying how impressed I am with the degree of intellect and the manner in which so many of you have articulated what/how you feel. While I have always tremendously valued education, went to school for a loooooong time, and really do try and place a lot of importance on my own personal proper use of grammar, spelling and linguistics in general, writing is definitely not my strong suit. I'm certainly never going to win any debate contests or be the most articulate person in expressing, in writing, how I feel or what I think....I can say that without a doubt. I've always been impressed with many BA's writing skills, conciseness and ability to express themselves in writing on many forums/threads that I've read since joining BA. In this forum, though, I've really enjoyed reading everyone's opinions, how well thought out they are and the succinct manner in which you all have expressed yourselves and demonstrated how well you all can write...it's been a fun read, that's for sure! It's quite obvious how passionate so many BA members are about craft beer and that passion has shone through in this forum. Now, for any of you English majors out there, forgive me for all of my grammatical errors, excessive use of commas and run on sentences....I said "you guys express yourselves and write well", I said it's not MY forté!

Anyhooooooo, I have already previously put my vote in for bringing beer karma back but wanted to say (I know I'll sound like even more of a dweeb here) that I never knew you actually could be rewarded for liking comments/things/photos until I learned this on this forum. I knew if people liked your comment that was rewarded. I'd definitely say, if you guys bring BK back, do not give points any more for liking something but do reward points for something of yours being liked. Anybody can like anything with little to no effort/knowledge/contribution but they should not be rewarded for that. With that being said and newly learned, I went through and liked every single comment on here for each and everyone of you so I'll be a poobah when they bring this damn thing back.

Yes, in at least one ongoing BIF thread, where I've had the good luck of meeting a number of people whom I now consider friends, better than 30 of whom I've had the good fortune to meet in person, shake their hand and enjoy a beer with.
To me, that is the real beer karma, not some accumulated number, but meeting people, making friends and sharing beer.

This is a well written comment. Don't kid yourself, you can write well too!

What I'm curious about though is the last part. You get awarded Beer Karma for liking posts? I can honestly say I rarely like other posts on here (at least compared with how much I post).

Considering it's on topic with likes, I want to address something else: I see all of these folks talking about others achieving poobah from likes and posts. I don't have the exact numbers, but I don't believe that's possible*. I've reviewed over 250 beers, gotten 10k likes, nearing 1k posts, and reviewed and traded around a dozen time and never touched poobah level. I was also maxed out on the "like" point scale, so it's not like that would help me any more.

*Okay, maaaaybe if people are dumping posts in certain areas of the forum, but that's a unique problem. Kinda like the way some folks just "rate" a beer to boost their beer count.
