Disabling Beer Karma

I will disagree with the NBS forum exclusion. The entire intent of the thread is to promote the first item in what you have outlined.

Really like the idea for rewarding updates to existing entries
( place info, duplicate listings, beer availability, etc. )

 

Love the idea of negative Karma, ThatsThatGuy might just capsize on that one.

Since it seems to be a pretty consistent theme (especially regarding WBAYDN) why not just do away with Karma for likes, unless it's for pretty large milestones? It won't prevent me, and I'm sure many others that actually love to share, from continuing to post in those threads, though.

 

I liked the system as it was. Whatever system is put in place, if one is, I hope we don't all have to start over from zero.

 

You know I think this is a very important given we may all be taking for granted, as I haven't noticed anyone really mention this until now.

How many BAs for ensuring we can remain at the level we left off at before the system was taken down?

 

I'd vote to keep BK points for likes, even in NBS. You could make WBAYDN count for less I suppose, as one might argue that giving points for those likes may encourage people to drink more than they should just to get BK points - I'll bet that has happened. Reward the behavior you want. Trading should get you the banner, but I'd have to be convinced that it merits BK points.

 

Give more weight to written posts than likes, but reward milestones in both.

 

IDK Trading is Advocacy ive meet many BA'S in IP trade's that are great people.I think it promotes advocacy and conversation in sharing what we like on this site.

 

NBS is COOL! it promotes written reviews, WBAYDN and Pics of Beer haul threads not so much.. likes on these last 2 well make those threads just for fun because they are entertaining but dont add so much content to the site again they are fun and have there place.

 

Maybe cool was the wrong word. I meant that (NBS) promotes written reviews.

 

I compose the review text as my NBS post (or my WBAYDN post if it's not Sunday) then copy and paste most of it into my review. I see others do the review and then put a link into their NBS post. My way you don't have to follow a link, you can just scroll through the NBS postings. Perhaps since we can't be sure that when someone posts in NBS that they are also posting a review, likes should not count, only posting a review.

I agree with WesMantooth. NBS is all about trying new beers, styles, venturing out into this awesome world of fermentations AND having vibrant discussions about the beers. It's not just posting pics.

 

I always review within NBS as well. I thought that was the point....?

I can see it being difficult to weigh posts with reviews versus those without. Perhaps that thread would just need site moderation and nix the posts that don't contain a worthy review.

 

I would like to see the Beer Karma system continue. It was a fun way to encourage greater participation as well as the trying and reviewing of new beers; I liked seeing the banner under my name change to a new ranking.
