So, during my past 2-3 reviews, I've lost the written part of my reviews.

My process for posting a review is to use the drop-down menu to review by Attribute. Then, I begin writing up my review. After finishing up the written section, I go back and start filling out the numbers for each characteristic. So, when I put in the last number, the top drop-down appears and says, "Your rating has been submitted." Then, I hit the word Review, below the written review. Finally, I hit the Review next to Link. I don't always hit both reviews, but with the drop-down having already popped up, I refresh the page to see my review pop-up without the actual words, which are then lost and my beer is finished off.

If I'm understanding you correctly, I think after you hit 'Review' the second time that it signals the review creation process that you are starting over, thus it erases what you've written. I think losing a partial review has happened to me in the past, and that's the only thing I can figure out that I may have done to cause it to be lost.

But another your part of your procedural explanation is definitely wrong. You cannot enter a score for each characteristic like you did in the past. It's now a 'one score' process. If you want to calculate a score for each characteristic like in the past, then you need to create a calculation formula to arrive at the one score that you'll input along with your review. If you want to keep your scoring calculation consistent with all of your older scores so that your review relativity is maintained, you can use the following proportions that Todd listed in a thread about 6 months ago: Atmosphere = 1; Quality = 3; Service = 2.5; Selection = 2.5; and Food = 1. (Total equals 10, but you can add a zero to each characteristic and get percentages with a total score of 100%.) If the place that you are reviewing does not have food, then split it's "1" (or 10%) among the other characteristics and then total them up for your single score.

It was added back for the Beer Reviews, you select "Attribute" and it gives you a drop down for each category.

He was probably talking about a Beer Review, not a Place Review.

I thought this post was going to be about the lack of written beer reviews on this site

I guess I'll just have to try to remember to copy the text over to a .txt file before I refresh the page. It's just that I like writing my reviews inside the BA text box. I just made this thread to bring awareness to a possible issue and because I'd just lost a rather lengthy review, so I was not particularly pleased at that moment.

I compose on a Word doc and then copy and paste onto the BA review screen. That way my document is protected against me hitting a wrong button, plus it is there if my review ever gets accidentally deleted on BA.

    This is a fair point.

I've posted previously about my preference for the way it used to be wherein there was a separate page with a larger text box after you clicked review. I haven't lost any reviews under the new system yet, but I could see myself scrolling down and starting to read other reviews and then clicking something - forgetting I was in the middle of reviewing - only to lose what had already been written.

Surely there is a better interface for this.

Archiving my reviews is a whole other issue. I really need to get started on that and then just keep up. That would make for a long day indeed. Do you save all your statistics for a specific brew or just your written review/rating in each attribute?

I maintain a spreadsheet with all of my notes and scores, which I like as a method because I can easily keep track of other attributes like serving size, packing date, etc. as well. I don't input them here, but I'd think it's easy to just copy any text notes into the text box for this website so you don't spend any time with a 'dangling' review that can't be recovered.

Then again, it looks like the forums here will save a draft of your input, so I'm not sure why the review boxes couldn't or wouldn't be coded to do that too.

I don't review beers, just Places, and I just started keeping a notebook this year with my notes taken while at each place. (Prior to using the notebook, it was all in my head.) I score each beer while drinking a sampler, and compile an overall score for the beer which I then incorporate into my scoring formula for the overall Place score. My Word doc has a record of the scores for each characteristic, but if I would lose my notebooks I'd lose all of the individual beer scores and food notes.

You need to. The Review link opens the text area. The Review button submits the text, which will display its own alert.

This is not a bug. And all other comments don't apply.
