I got it in both too. I'm not complaining thought because I actually like the "garlic/onion" aromas.

^This. But I love G'Knight, it is one mighty fine imperial red.

If you're looking for big fruit flavors then Oskar blues is not the best brewery for you. Their beers are earthy tasting which a lot of people don't like. G'Knight fresh imo has nice honey esque malt back bone and tons of earthy piney hops. I love that beer. Also, drinking a hoppy beer from July is probably not the best time to drink it.

I will look for a fresher can. Ten Fidy is also a favorite of mine- I recently stocked up on it for the winter.

It's old at 4-5 months old the hops I'm sure have well faded, well past what the brewer intended. It's also not really a DIPA but an Imperial Red Ale, that said I like this brew, but like most Oscar Blues stuff it's quirky, you either love them or not. I'd get a fresh can and give it another go.

Agreed. I am big fan of most of their beers- especially Deviant Dales and Ten Fidy. I don't think of their beers as quirky, but distinctive- they don't taste like other beers in the same style. I just opened a bottle of Dogfish Miles Davis Bitches Brew,- an excellent beer- but the finish is similar to other beers( I couldn't pinpoint which specific beer) in that style.

Another example- Dale's Pale ale- not my favorite beer- is distinctive and doesn't taste like other beers in the style.

I will look for an updated bottle today.

I'm surprised that Todd hasn't told you to put this in the reviews section yet.

Just had a G'Knight from 2011, and it couldn't have tasted better. Savory, malty, and bitter. I even used a little bit of it to caramelize the onions. I'm a big fan of Oskar Blues, but even I've had my disappointments.

I can't ever find it fresh anymore... 6-7 months after canning date is all I've seen lately... absolutely love it when its fresh...

wait they are canning everything in 16 ouncers now, everthing we have in the stores here is still 12 oz, i have never had a problem with Gnight though i like it, but i prefer either deviant dales or reg dales

I have to say that I find G'Night pretty good but not very complex and to me it is not bitter and actually rather on the sweet side, although with a lot of hop flavour. It's not great, but to me it is probably my favourite beer form this brewer. I would note that people taste bitterness and sweetness different ways. For me, the amount of IBUs is irrelevant for determining how bitter a beer actually tastes. What matters more is the relative bitterness and sweetness. Thus, a friend finds Pliny the Elder more bitter than Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and prefers Pliny for that reason. To me, Pliny is not at all bitter (although it has bitterness, it also has sweetness, so that in the end it is not actually to me "bitter"), but Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is very bitter - because the bitterness to me lacks any sweetness to balance it out.

I also would say that I consider it more of an "Imperial Red" rather than a DIPA, but then the lines are so blurred, it doesn't really matter what one calls it, and it really is rather subjective.

Maybe it's because reds are my favorite style, but I just had my first G'Knight and I love it. Just a notch or so under my favorites like Troegs HopBack and BR Red Rocket.

Mine was canned at the end of August and tastes very balanced. Hops behind a strong fruity+malt profile. Exactly what I want from a red.
