Sadly, I would submit that it does NOT keep them away. The Extreme Hoarders and Competitive Traders simply bring a ton of mules to the prennounced releases so they CAN be sure to get X times the limit. It's why I have come to love Cycle's unannounced releases: It's hard (not impossible, I'm sure, but more difficult) to round up the Mule Posse and get to Cycle from ... oh, say, Orlando before 6 pm when a release is announced at 3 pm.

If this was the OP's first experience with a limited release, then that is a bit of a bummer to have that kind of experience right out of the gate. If this isn't his first rodeo, I'd say he got in line way too late.

This was my first year in line for this so I had no idea what to expect. I was going to leave around 8AM (I live 15 minutes away), but changed my mind that morning, leaving at about 7 instead.

If it is something you want, get there early. I already have friends willing to trade for this stuff and I have never had it.

We are already talking about a 2AM start time for Black Friday BCBS. Never thought I would get up that early to buy beer!

Side Project has never lowered limits after sales start. They dont even announce limits untill you are about to purchase. They count the line 30min before a release starts and bases it on that.

Actually, nowhere in my post that you quoted will you see the words "it's just beer" or "relax man" or any of the other quotes you used. Perhaps I should randomly and liberally paraphrase your future posts? If you understood the context of my last sentence, you would understand that it does not minimize anyone's feeling. It puts things in perspective, which is something you might consider working on.

Yeah, the truth hurts, but the fact remains, you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of this hobby if you just relax and don't get you panties in a bunch if you don't get the next latest and greatest beer release. I can guarantee there are far better, probably more available beers available than the one the OP missed out on. My advice still stands. Don't get SO focused on that one beer.

Cool story. This is reverse-beer snobbery on display. There's nothing wrong with wanting beers that are release-only. Trust me, there are a lot that are worth it and no, they don't have a shelf counterpart.

I went to a bottle release last weekend in CT. I got there early knowing the turnout was going to be crazy. 3 bottles a person, 288 bottles total. About 30 minutes before the doors opened the bottle limit was cut to 2. WTF!!! Really??? What about all the people that got up early and stood in line for hours? What about the integrity of your word? I feel lied to and betrayed. Why even set limits if you know you're going to change them last minute?

Google "Gary brewery". There's exactly one. From there, they have a couple of posts about the release. It's pretty obvious.

OP, You are not entitled to beer just because you drove an hour and stood in line for two hours. If you want it that bad, work for it. Get there early. Then go home and post your haul pictures. Don't blame 18th St because they didn't recognize your entitlement and save one just for you. Quit yer cryin'.

From what I've read about bottle releases and lines, sounds brutal. I'd be pissed if I stood in a line and was told after hours that the brewery is sold out.

Glad you liked it. No attempt to judge right or wrong, just an observation. I'm sure some of the beers people wait in line for are great. But as others have noted, brewers have learned to capitalize on the ever-growing "fear of missing out" mentality.
