Personally, I don't stand in lines for beer releases, but I get why people do. What I don't understand is the anger that I read here where people pile on those like the OP of this thread who tried to get a beer and ended up empty handed and disappointed. A lot of your replies make you seem like a bunch of condescending assholes with no feelings. Jeez, the guy went to stand in line, he just got there too late. So many drop the angry "entitled" line these days. Where does he say he's entitled to a bottle?

Well, the passive-aggressive tone and expectation that preset limits be changed because OP underestimated the demand implies that OP feels entitled to a bottle.

To me it reads more like he just wishes he was able to get a bottle. He titled the thread "disappointing" so it seems he's disappointed. I suppose I figure the replies would run more along the lines of "that sucks" than " tough shit, get here earlier." I don't know, whatever.

That is pretty brutal, but how was it actually?

Yah I really don't get what the gripe is here. They ran out before you got to the front of the line. Period. There was nothing unfair about this. You are right to be disappointed but not criticize the brewery for this. Remove all doubt from the equation and get there very early. Simple as that.

Had some of there BA beer at a Half Acre party and was not very impressed so I dont have to worry about riding the Hype train. As someone stated earlier there are plenty of good local beers to enjoy. Also if you are thinking of getting on board with the Bourbon County release on Black Friday dont even set your alarm just head on over after your turkey dinner. Good Luck All.

I mean, if I show up to a release at a small brewery and there are 200 people ahead of me, I am going to worry I may not get my allotment. Regardless of the limit PP, I have to think that you're talking 300 bottles max? It's interesting, because the hardcore chaser's mettle is going to be tested in a few days with BC release parties. How early should you get there for Rare? Is 1 bottle of variants going to be worth the wait? I can understand OP's frustration, but I also agree with the "get there earlier" crowd. 5 hours before open would guarantee your bottles. 4 hours probably would too. From there though, it's about dedication and willingness to have no life.

Chased a few early on, decided it was huge waste of time and energy! There are plenty "limited" releases that are east to get so I just score those!

    Cheers

Any brewery which starts advertising bottle releases well in advance is doing it for the buzz. I get why a brewery goes for the publicity, which certainly increases demand short term in today's climate. It is also why I stay away from bottle releases.

Breweries which are more interested in taking care of their core supporters either don't bother with bottle releases or provide little advance notice.

Never went to one. It doesn't interest me to spend $20-$30 on a bottle when I could spend that on a tank of gas, grocery items, or supplements.

You have no diea how much abuse I got for saying this after the disastrous last LeBleu release.

That said, gotta agree, if you ain't there early, you gots no complaints to make about anything but your own lazy ass.

Don't know if he knows best, but he is right. Want a bottle, get there early.

Both the release and the beer were underwhelming I would say. The release felt like just another night at the bar, except the bottle shop was open late. No line-up, so that wasn't a pain. They'd advertised it, but I guess most people have gotten wise to Mikkeller releases and didn't bother turning up.

The beer is nice, but not worth the price to be honest. Tastes like a standard Boon Oude Gueuze, but with a lot of citrus. Not sure how they achieved that, perhaps it's been dry hopped; my palate isn't sophisticated enough to tell for sure, but it feels like it. A very nice beer, to be sure, just a bit over-priced and over-hyped.

I'm sure the OP got the message at this point. It's been repeated over and over.

Bo and Luke Release 2015. Get in line, wait a minute, there is no line, just a complete clusterF>>k. Cold and rainy of course. Mind you, near the end of the evening, they came out and stated that they needed two lines. One for pre-sales and one for everyone else. Many, including myself knew nothing of presales. Why the wait? Why not simply state at the beginning that there was to be two lines? Lots of people, including myself in the aformentioned cluster were consuming lots of product from the taproom. I was unable to try 2015 Bo and Luke on tap because it sold out, however I was able to have the 2014. I think it also sold out. It was not all bad, I did walk away with some Bo and Luke.

At least let people know how many bottles there will be so you can try to figure out a time to get there. I won't wait in line too long for beer. As far as beer costing more at the brewery I get it. They don't want to under cut the shops.

I will be at Victory Wednesday for the BA coffee but if it's more than an hour to get in I will leave. Not worth it to me. Want to try on tap and then buy a case if it's good. If not great I will grab a few bottles to age and see what happens. I'm guessing there will be plenty of bottles but if not I'll be ok. Not lineing up early. Get there when I get there. It's my day off.

If you see me at Victory say hi. I'll be the guy showing up late.

    Enjoy

Hahaha - your facts are pretty wrong. I know this is off topic but it irks me that people would rather shit on a town from thousands of miles away than give some respect to people / places like 18th that are trying to be a positive influence.

Next thread about Kuhnenn I expect everyone to trash Detroit, because it has more violent crime than Gary. Ditto for Side Project cuz, ya know, St Louis; Great Lakes because Cleveland (yep, more violent crime than Gary) ... in fact, it may surprise you to know that Washington DC, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Oakland, Memphis, Kansas City, Atlanta, and quite a few other cities have higher violent crime rates. Furthermore, the part of Gary where 18th Street is located actually has LOW crime; the crime is centered west, more around downtown and Calumet City.

So let's back away from the "Gary is a violent shithole" joke; it propogates ignorance, bias, and latent racism.

BTW, for the OP, the beer is aiight but there are numerous better beers. At FOBAB it wouldn't have made my top 50. Seek quality over hype and you'll care less about the line.

I've been there and came across that fact during my research. So, if it's wrong now, great for them.

Something tells me this BA forum is not their biggest problem, though.

Certainly not; but that perception is definitely a big problem. Where 18th set up shop is run down, but not dangerous. They're having a big positive impact. Just wanted to make sure people get that!

    Cheers.
