So I have kegged my first beer, forced carbed at 11 psi for 1 week. I tapped it yesterday and it is flowing perfectly. I re-tapped my commercial keg at the same psi (usually dispense commercial at 5 psi) and it is a rocket coming out of the tap.

Do commercial (sanky) kegs normally need a lower dispensing pressure or longer lines than force carbed corny kegs? Can you (or should you) purge a store bought keg prior to tapping and dispensing?

    Thanks,

    Joe

Sounds like the commercial keg was sitting at a higher pressure before you tapped it. What temp was it sitting at? To answer your question... no, the relationship between temperature, pressure, volumes of CO2, beer velocity, line lengths, and line diameters is the same regardless of the type of keg.

This actually happens with all the commercial kegs I have tapped.

Methinks your regulator is fibbing about the 5 psi...I'm guessing it's higher.

The pressure is too high...much too high. Gotta bring that baby down!

The regulator is currently set at 11 psi, the same pressure I force carbed at, not 5 psi. I usually serve my commercial kegs at 5 psi.

Does your beer line for you commercial keg have the same length and internal diameter as the beer line for your corny keg? For that matter, are they the same material?

Yes they are the same minus 1 inch when I converted one line to use for corny kegs.
