"Display Reviews Only" as user option

    With the new changes made, on the top of a beer page (I will use this: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/121198/ for example) next to BA score and The Bros score is a small grey box. The box shows Ratings, rAvg, pDev, Wants, Gots, FT. Below 'ratings' it used to show 'Reviews' (which at the time of writing this would be 6). Will you be putting that line back in, so those of us who like to know how many reviews the beer has can see that without scrolling down in to the actual reviews? This way, if a beer has a 3.75 rAvg with a good chunk of reviews one knows that number is well reasoned out, as opposed to a ticker selecting an arbitrary number.

    On a related note, is there any plan in the future to put an option to "Display reviews Only" in our user settings (so beers remained automatically checked to display reviews online)

    Re: Number of Reviews: I've added that back for now.

    Re: Creating a "Display Reviews Only" user option: No plans to add this has a permanent user option, though I could look at increasing the life of the cookie used to apply the setting.

    On a related side note: I reversed the default today as not showing Ratings by default was creating a lot of confusion.

    The cookie lifespan for the "Display Reviews Only" checkbox now lasts 24 hours vs 1 hour.

    Why have a short lifespan anyway? 24 hours seems kinda useless when many people check in once a day or so (but way better than 1 hour!). The cookie used to be sticky over long periods of time. Now I have to reclick the box frequently. Since I never was a fan of the inclusion of non-reviews in the first place, this repeated clicking kind of reminds of it every day. When it was out of sight, it was out of mind. My guess is that a vast majority of people clicking this want it to be semi-permanent.

    Sounded like a better time frame/compromise and so far only you've asked for it to be longer.

    Emails from confused industry folk have stopped too.

    I would also like to see the life of the cookie extended (don't mind that the default changed)...maybe a week?

    Glad the reversal of the option stopped extraneous emails; I actually have no problem with the default as it has been and I really appreciated having the choice option box. That worked well for me. I understand that most people like to see both at the same time and having that as the default makes sense. Perhaps a slightly longer cookie life would be a good compromise that would not affect anyone who does not click the choice box.

    It's now been set to 1 week.

    Note: Displaying reviews only is temporarily overridden when viewing a beer with no reviews or a rating from a specific user. The option will need to be set on each device you use.
