It's OK, the Mason Dixon Line doesn't bite. I drive across it everyday for work. Also, lived in VT for about 4 years, not a lot of cows, but a lot of pretty trees! Big beer selection for a small state.

Just make it a good time. Visit a locally brewery in whatever area you're going too. I haven't gone far yet, probably like 30 mins. In 2 weeks I plan on flying to Chicago tho which will be about a 6 hour flight and I'm visiting a few breweries

Around once a month my lady and I beercation somewhere!

Furthest so far though would be our trip to Westbrook..340 miles to get there...the day AFTER Mexican Cake released and 'sold out' at the brewery :/ and after leaning on one of several pallets of the stuff during the tour was told they wouldn't sell me one. Still had a great time in the area, and I highly suggest visiting WB and COAST Brewing if you're ever in the Mount Pleasant area!

Vermont, I will see you one day!

In terms of a day trip specifically to buy beer, about 50 miles each way.

I've done the drive from NYC to Hill Farmstead a few times (and am about to again in a couple of weeks) but that always involves staying a few nights up there.

As of right now it's an hour and a half each way. Done it a few times to go to Russian river and to sierra Nevada. Both have great food and it a nice trip out of town. Sierra Nevada does free tastings with a tour too! I will also be joining the rare barrel club so will have to drive to San Francisco to pick up my allocation. Any further and I would have to make other plans too to make the trip worth it.

But Jane, unless you go to a brewery in PA, beer is a hassle to buy, if memory serves. Or are the laws changing in PA? Someone informed, fill me in.

About 100 miles for the Exponential Hoppiness release. I also picked up other beers at Alpine Brewing that I cannot easily find on that trip.

265 miles from Fayetteville NC to Asheville NC. It was for the beer but also because I just love that town...and I love the mountains. Loved it. Will probably be doing it again in October.

I relocated from Ontario to Scotland over 20 years ago to drink good beer among other things (grad work, career, marriage, family etc) and from what I tasted last week in Ontario the move is still paying dividends.

I'm so spoiled in Sonoma County California that I don't think I've ever driven more than 20 miles just for beer. Don't get me wrong, I flew to San Diego three weeks ago for a beercation, but as far as driving just for beer goes, I don't think I've ever left the county.

I hit Tree House once a week which is 54 miles each way and usually I hit Vermont once a month which is about a 650 mile round trip

805 miles one way for PtY release.did it three years straight and it was worth it then. Didn't do it last year though. It got too hectic.
I routinely go 197 miles one way to Portland (beervana) frequently just for beer.

Almost 300 miles each way to Hill Farmstead, but I also managed to pick up some Heady on the way. Worth it and then some.

I drive 120 miles to St. Louis all the time to hit the local breweries and have drove several hundred miles for beer festivals. I figure anything within 5 hrs is game for an easy long weekend? Food, beer, shopping and travel...worth the time and miles to me!

I've gone on a few vacations that were essentially "beercations." But along the lines of driving really far specifically for a special release or for something I can't usually get, and only going for a day or two? That doesn't happen. It costs over $30 in tolls getting out of and back into Long Island, as well as a high quantity of what ever measure sanity is measured in by sitting in too much damn traffic. I plan on doing more extensive beer-only trips once I move out of here, but beer is always a big part of the equation when planning vacations.

Just to purchase beer, I regularly drive about 25-30 miles one way for a decent bottle shop.
For a Brewery visit of some kind, I have traveled around 75 miles one way.
If it is vacation, distance becomes much less of a factor for brewery visits, but that's not really just for the beer.
