I enjoy diabeetus in bottle, but a bomber is way too much. Sipping about 8-10 oz at a time would be plenty.

For me a divisive beer should be judged by the “Pumking Scale.” Simply if the pDev of a beer is above the pDev of Pumking, then it is divisive. The Pumking pDev is 17.2%. Mad Elf pDev is 15.46%, so it’s close, but not divisive enough to have a constant stream of threads about it.

For the record, I love Pumking (especially on tap) and don’t get the hate at all.

So my question is: what is the beer that has the highest pDev? Voodoo Doughnut Maple Bacon is the highest I can find at 33.57%. The DFH Black & Red I mentioned in an earlier post is the next highest I can find at 28.53%. Anyone know of any higher?

The first beer that came to mind in this was Sam Adams Triple Bock. I don't know of any beer that simultaneously has as many "this beer as amazing" and "this beer is Satan's vomit" remarks about it. I've had it once and it was quite awful, but it was a long time ago. I'd be curious to try it again.

Again I agree w/ the Mad Elf. Couldn't finish 1 bottle, drain pour.

Sam Adams Triple Bock has a pDev of 39.31%.

Had one a few months ago. It was interesting, and I'd surely drink it again.

I remember when they first came out with it and there was a sizable minority of people who loved it. Basically it comes down to whether or not you enjoy mint in your beer.

Second, third, fourth, fifth vote for pumking.(not really the places of votes but you get the idea). That stuff is the sweetest most god awful thing ever to pass my lips. Even worse than the rogue bacon maple abomination.

I'm one of the haters for this one, but it was also among my first hardcore beers (I had it at a whiskey bar while still doing the bourbon thing). I'll try it again if I see it.

Pumking is great fascinating for a sip, but I can't finish a glass.

I thought Mad Elf was pleasant; neither great nor terrible.

Didnt see this thread before I started mine. Mine is Third Shift Lager. To most its bleh but for some odd reason I love it. It has that dry bite to it I love in a Lager. To many Lagers are to sweet for me.

Mexican beers. I used to live on Pacifico and Sol. Love the stuff. Reminds me of being a teenager/20 something in San Diego having lunch at Rubio's or heading down to TJ on a Saturday night when I was 17. A lot of people hate them. Love the taste.
