They couldn't care less if you snagged multiple tickets for your friends. What they don't want is 1 dude going up for 4 rounds of bottles.

So last Saturday they had more bottles of Moscatel DL than tickets. Now this is just a hunch, but I bet they held back some of the tickets for sale at the brewpub just so they could shut people out on tickets and as consolation, those people would buy a $50 of 'crappy' BA Dark Lord that they couldn't sell at DLD last year. Would be a win-'win' for both the brewery and somewhat of a 'win' for the people shut out on tickets. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if they released more tickets at the brewpub before DLD.

They do nothing to prevent this, except for telling you not to. All the actual rules in place are to prevent scalping.

Couldnt sell last year? Were people passing on their winning tickets?

I was at the end of group e, and i did see two different people trying to sell their winning tix because they were not interested in "crappy" dark lord. So count me as an eye witness account. They may have passed without a taker or the $50 to buy said dl.

Not a lot of people bought Moscatel DL is all. They sold A LOT more tickets. I'd guess 300-500 were sold.

Hello fellow BAs. I was wondering if anyone has a hotel floor I could sleep on Friday? I am looking to come down from Chicago to participate in the DLD Eve bottleshare. I would be happy to pay.

I'm still very surprised tickets sold out so fast. Each of the three people selling tickets had a fat stack of tickets when I left FFF at 9:30am then they announce at 1030 they were out? I'd have to imagine this weekend they will have one last sale, probably on Easter.

I gave mine up in group D. Not because I didn't want whatever version, but because I didn't feel like shelling out $50 for another beer. I wish I would have asked for the physical ticket back though, just to have a winning ticket. In group B this year if I win, I'm probably going to hang on to it and actually buy the beer.

    1. Some ticket holders just didn't show up
    2. Some who did show up just didn't buy DL
    3. Some who did buy DL just passed on the ticket
    4. Everyone spent the morning googling, "what the fuck is muscatel?"
    Doesn't seem all that mysterious.

And my friend in group B says, "that sounds interesting" and buys the muscatel instead of the BVDL. We're opening it DLD-eve this year, so here's to hoping its a lot better than some of you make it out to be.

I was definitely in #4. There was still Port left at the very end. So it's not like everyone passed on just moscatel. I guess it is possible that ~600 or so people fell into one of the first 3 groups above, given the choice of 2 wine variants for half the day.

Another reason you shouldnt get too drunk before going through the bottle line. All joking aside, I enjoyed the Moscatel. Definitely better than the base 2012 Dark Lord, but not worth the price or trade value. Problem is that everyone compares it to BVDL. And that's kinda like comparing every other Founders Backstage to CBS. No it's not as good, but get that out of your head, it's a good beer.

I'd actually assume 10% of people who bought tickets didn't even show up. So that's upwards of 900 right there.

I know that seems like a lot of no shows, but between work, weddings, funerals, unexpected visitors (family, in laws, college roommates), illness, kids, and people who bought tickets just to flip them, I'm guessing that's a conservative number.

10% is probably a bit high, but im pretty sure there were a lot of unsold IP tickets last year. I showed up at 3:30 on the second IP day, no line, 3 stacks of tickets 3 inches high each. Cant imagine too many more showed up for the 3rd IP sale the following friday.

FWIW here is FFF's answer from 2 separate emails. One to me, one to my friend with the tickets:

"Your friend can use the Group A ticket he bought at the pub this past weekend and you can still be his guest on one of the GA tickets. You both must arrive together and have your ID’s ready. His ID must match the name on both tickets.

The second GA ticket is now not usable, as your friend is only permitted one guest (or a total of 2 tickets in his name to enter the festival)."

    -----

"The website is very clear that ticket purchasers are only permitted one guest, or the equivalent of two tickets printed in their name. This rule is in place to assure that more people are able to enjoy DLD and to help eliminate the re-sell of tickets.
We actually can offer you a refund for one of the GA tickets if you wish. In order to do so, please fill out the attached refund request form and forward directly to CrowdSurge. Please note that forms must be received by 4/21. You do not need to return the physical tickets, as they will be cancelled by CrowdSurge and will scan with an error message at the festival."

He's going for the refund but I'm a little scared if he has them refund one of the tickets that they'll actually refund both (either by protocol or by accident) and I'll be screwed at the gate when they scan.

Good guy FFF right there. They really deserve a lot more credit than these boards give them on many things.

So what would prevent him from entering with guest #1. Then later entering with Guest #2. Guest #2 would probably have to arrive later if your friend would want to get through the A bottle line.
