Don't bother. My guess is the BIG Bloomington fest. When certain staff members attend festivals those staff members can't also do the tour(s). I too was momentarily hopeful.

This whole camping out thing is getting out of hand. I stopped in this weekend and was able to chat with the guys at the to-go counter and they are (obviously) completely aware of this whole camping out scenario and don't really like what it's turned into. My guess is, in true FFF fashion, they are intentional not doing the IP sales when they have historically done them in the past in order to weed out the campers and make them look like complete fools. It has brought the frenzy of what DLD has been become to everyones attention and it's a good way to give some people a reality check. If you honestly think camping out for a ticket release multiple days a weekend to attend DLD is time well spent, I think you need to reevaluate your priorities. It's just beer people!

The purpose of the festival is to celebrate the evolution of beer culture and the great people that make it an even greater community. You don't even have to have a ticket to be able to take part in some of the best parts of DLD, which are the bottle shares. And if you really want to get your hands on some Dark Lord, theres plenty for sale/trade secondhand. Factoring in fuel costs, ticket price, and all other incidental costs its well within reason to pay 2-3x face value a bottle, so I don't understand the fuss people make over price gouging/inflation that happens afterwards.

Yeah, but in reality its still going to happen. Admitting it or not still doesn't change the fact that it is still going to happen. Just pointing out the elephant in the room...with the only way to truly stop it being the utilization of biometric bottle openers...

Yeah, it happens. Admitting it isn't the same as condoning it or actually encouraging it, as you were doing:
"its [sic] well within reason to pay 2-3x face value a bottle"

No, it's not. This is the same BS people use to justify reselling every limited release.

Look, I'm no condoning or encouraging the practice, but I understand that someones time, money, and effort to obtain it is worth something. It's the cost of doing business. And no matter how many people piss and moan about it, it still doesn't change the fact that it will continue to happen.

Also, even at $15/btl, do you really think it costs anywhere near that to manufacture? Barrel aging adds cents on the dollar, and overall the ingredients don't cost that much more than other beers yet it costs 3x as much to purchase.

The point is people shouldn't be reselling it period. Trading? Fuck it, why not, at around $4$ or for similar brewery-release beers. I just dislike the people who show up to beer releases with no intention of ever drinking the beer that just want to flip it on Craigslist or *.com for a profit. Justifying their markup as "time and effort" just legitimizes them. I mean, there's what... 24,000+ bottles of the stuff made each year? We're not talking single-barrel releases or something.

From what home brewer friends tell me, DL has a huge malt bill, lots of adjuncts, and ties up tanks for quite a long time... which means no other beer goes through them. Plus, more labor. So, the price isn't too bad, from what I understand. I'd be happy for someone who knows more about brewing to confirm or deny that; I honestly don't know personally.

Completely agree. Half the campers are out looking to make a quick profit. If they are that concerned about the money aspect, they have no business spending that kind of money on the "hope" of reselling. As to the markup, I'm talking more about things like CBS @ $130/btl or vanilla DL @ $350/btl.

I personally know a few local brewers and from what I understand, yes it is more expensive, but its not like its $10/btl to produce. Coming from a manufacturing background, the space it takes up defintely is a critical factor in cost, but markup (Escalade vs Tahoe for example) is a lot more than you think. Everyone needs their cut.

I don't understand why these in person tickets need to happen. It's a silly, inefficient system. You could hit nearly the same target that they're trying for with "local in person tickets" by having their order management system restrict orders to credit cards with AVS matched billing zip codes in a certain range, or within a certain radius of Munster (5 miles? 30? 50?) Sell them online in a separate sale if you need to, and remove all the campers and annoyances of the relentless calls they're probably getting from locals asking about it.

It sounds like it would be as easy as that, but I am not so sure. I've never seen any online ticketing sale that restricts the sale by zip code, area code, address, etc. They may not have that option, and even if they do, its probably still easier to sell in person anyway. They dont have to pay the middleman ticketing agency to do the sale and ship them out, they just need a table and 1 or 2 of their own employees.

I agree with @Dewback9. They likely wanted to do ticket sales the past 2 weekends but upon seeing the horde of vehicles in the parking lot, they changed their minds. It is kind of ridiculous, this camping mentality. Hopefully they do all locals a real favor and do it on a weekday.

Honest question - how do we know the IP ticket sales aren't happening unannounced? If it's truly a way to help out locals, why publicly announce it at all? I like to think that most businesses know who their regulars / locals are. Why not just communicate with them in person to sell them tickets instead of going public with it to open it up for the masses?

Then we will see all the posts from people who live "5 minutes away" but have "jobs like real people" so they couldn't go.

I could actually see this happening but seeing as how many people are local and on here, it's highly unlikely.

I could see them instead doing weeknight sales to give everyone that has a "real" job a chance as well. At this point we can only speculate until it actually happens.

Stay tuned for updates on sales of barrel-aged bottles and onsite DLD2014 tickets.

Unless the FFF update is that all IP ticket sales have been sold out from an unannounced sale:wink: Wouldn't that get FB/twitter replies rolling :grimacing:
