DME - technique?

    I think a grain bag is the easiest method for a mini-mash. You can even do a makeshift sparge by either having a buddy hold the bag over the pot while you pour hot water over the grains, or building a rig that holds the grain bag for you. You could even try to do it yourself with a watering can full of hot water, but I find that what started out as 4-5 pounds of grain becomes an awful lot heavier once water gets absorbed, and holding it up for more than a couple of minutes can be a challenge. It's also quite possible that sparging a mini-mash is totally unnecessary, but you CAN squeeze a few extra gravity points out of those grains if you really want to.
