Considering most of the beer we drink is water are there any breweries that do crazy things with the mineral content or something else?
Definitely not what you're question is relating to but I like this idea that New Holland has put together. Really like the beer too. Every keg that they sell of their "Dirty Water Beer"(Brown Ale), they provide clean water for life for an individual. Again, not at all what your question is about but just reminded me of this idea hahaha
Yards makes a nice oyster stout. The addition of oysters ups the mineral content and awesomeness of the beer. I know that other breweries are on to this idea as well. So yes!
Pretty sure alot of them have to remove chemicals put in there by the water company. Mostly an urban problem I think, but they have to remove any hint of chlorine.
Not sure about 'experimenting'. It is pretty well known what different mineral contents in water sources bring to the table. Some old world brewing centers made their bacon based on it (Burton, Plzen, etc). Today, depending on what style a brewery wants to produce and in what tradition, they simply modify the water to meet it. It's been fairly well established for quite some time so no experimenting necessary.
The good brewers think of everything. While you beaches whine about IPAs that are a week old, they are pondering mash PH, isomerization, mellanoidins and what crazy shit they can slap an "IPA" label on.
