Breweries will monitor the forums here, twitter and other various sites and forums. These are incredibly helpful tools for the breweries to gauge public interest and opinions. Let's keep this in the proper perspective though, there are far too many overly dramatic internet experts, uninformed consumers, jerks and fanboys out there to make this a reliable indicator of how a beer is doing. Watching your sales is a much better way to gauge how well a brewery is doing. Let's not overstate our impact here, breweries are not changing their recipes or altering their business plan based on feedback from BA.

Indeed. I have gotten some not so pleasant beermails referencing my reviews, which was a great surprise to me, as I didn't know they read them, nor that they took them as seriously as they seem to do. I rate above the curve for the most part too. I'm guessing others have received even more unpleasant mails.

We can reference 110K+OT too but it is more of a reference that a direct impact BA had on a brewery. Cambridge has named several beers after Phish songs but Phish did not impact how the beer was brewed or how the business was operated.

Yeah sure but that's not what I am saying at all. Which is why I chose that example instead of 110K.

I think, and I have no way of substantiating it, that Bruery's society within a society is designed to cater to hardcore BA/RB trader/ticker types. Honestly, I can't see anyone loving Bruery's beer so much that they would keep it all for themselves.

One brewer at a brewpub commented to me about a mediocre rating that I gave one of his beers. Didn't get pissy about it, but was a little perturbed. It honestly wasn't that good. They never did brew that one again.

I've only gotten 1 BM from a brewer, in Mexico/or distributor of said brewery. and I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. We got 2 of their beers in town for a short while and I posted a "complaint" that we didn't get more. They were very good.

Edit: I remember now, it was Casta Brewing.

I can see that, I am not sure I completely agree with it but I will not dismiss it. It is about sales when we get down to it. The Bruery can make sales and they know it. Irregardless of why they sales are being made, be it catering to a market driven by BA/RB or not, it would be silly for a brewery not to make the decision to make the sales when they are readily available.

A lot of times it isn't that they are monitoring the site.....it's tattle tales emailing the brewers if someone posts something they don't like insults the 'best beer in the world' in their eyes.

Of course this doesn't happen nearly as often, or always with the same intentions, as you'd like the thread to believe.

While it's true that some can't handle being criticized, some critics don't know how to be constructive. Throw someone's livelihood and passion into the mix and unfortunately you'll sometimes get these results.

Yup, I've gotten a fair amount of BMs from brewers about my reviews. Hell, even some store owners in regards to my place reviews.

Yep. I've received quite a bit of negative attention for reviews in the past, from brewers and fans alike (even got banned from a few beer stores for my place reviews).

I know for a fact I'm in someone's doghouse for not giving their beers as high of an A as they wanted. And this is after praising their beers for years on BA...

I disagree with a lot of these posts - i think they do sometimes. How often are you on a brewery's website and they link to BA or RB, claiming their beer is 'world class' or whatever. I dont think it dictates their product line, but it's good feedback. After all, they make beer to be consumed, not just for the hell of it.

No, i think they check this (and other sites) to see how other breweries are doing.
