OK I have about 8 cases of beer tucked away in the garage mostly all Imperial Stouts that I am cellaring . some are over 3 years old. well my issue is that my wife left the garage door open all night when it was 6 degrees out. the thermostat in the garage usually reads at 50 to 60 all year round but because of her leaving the door open it was close to 34 degrees in there this morning. do I need to be concerned that my cellared beers will be skunked once they warm back up ?

Probably not. A nice chill might be beneficial to long term aging.

If they didn't freeze you should be fine I imagine.

I don't think they'll be skunked. One temperature fluctuation shouldn't hurt anything. They weren't frozen were they? That's a bigger issue.

No worries at all. Your only problem would be if you drink them at that temp.

I think she's giving you hints. (DRINK THEM)

But no, I believe the worst for beer is sunlight, and in some cases, a hot to cold, and back fluctuation constantly (i see it mainly with 40 degree beer sitting in the back of a hot truck and it staying there more than a week)

My only worry would be why my wife left the effing garage door open all night. Cheers.

Temperature doesn't skunk beer, sunlight does. They'll be fine as long as they didn't freeze and pop the caps.

Send them all to me and I will make sure they're OK.:grinning:
Seriously, I wouldn't worry although I might rethink my idea of storing beer in the garage in Pennsylvania.

of course she blames me and she might be right since the snow blower is kept between the garage doors and sometimes blocks the camera sensors . but she should have noticed it went back up and let me know as se has in the past

Definitely going from warmer to cold isn't a big concern. If it was happening frequently you would have a problem. It's frequent, big temperature swings that are going to hurt the beer. Warming and cooling gradually a few times is nothing to worry about.

No, you should be fine; they didn't even freeze at that temp. Train your wife better, though, this is important stuff.

I see what you mean but its a new house and well insulated there is a clock and temp reading on the garage door opener buttons and it always reads about 50 to 60 degrees in there all year round.

No. it'd be oxidization you'd be worried about, but at the temperature fluctuation you mention. That's not at all likely. Try 90 - 30 and back again, and repeat that a few times to get oxidized beer. 34 is actually a great keeping temp, and you'd have to get below freezing; like say, down in the low 20's to actually be worried about beer freezing.
