I know it's "not recommended", but, today I am converting a 5-gallon batch I.P.A. recipe to a 1-gallon batch. In doing so, it looks like I'll have some leftover hops. I am planning on brewing another beer soon but since the seasons have changed I was looking more towards brewing a Dark Ale of some sort so I don't think i'll be using any of these hops I have leftover. Hops are .5oz Warrior, & 1 oz. ea. of Centennial, Columbus, Simcoe.

Maybe the hops would work in a few jars of homemade pickles? Maybe in a bowl of cereal?

Hoping these don't go to waste so any ideas (other than brewing a full 5-gallon batch) would be helpful!

    CHEERS BAS!

If the hops are pellets or dried whole cones you can vacuum seal them or put them in baggies (not as good) and freeze for later use.

How quickly do you go through a 1gal batch? You could always have another IPA in the pipeline. If you're looking to be a bit more seasonal, maybe go with a bit more of a malty grainbill.

Either vacuum seal them or just push as much air out as you can and tape the package shut and put them in the freezer, like @GreenKrusty101 suggested. They'll be OK.

You were kidding about putting them in a bowl of cereal, right? If not, I'd like to watch the video.
    Pickles? Hmm. Maybe.

Given that hops are harvested once a year, it's not common, or even possible, to use fresh hops all the time. Storage conditions are critical to maintaining freshness, but suitable conditions are well within the reach of the average homeowner. Worst case, stick them in a zip lock bag and put it in the freezer. If you use them within a few weeks, you likely won't notice any difference. Much longer than that, I'd invest in a FoodSaver or similar vacuum sealing device.

Never throw away hops unless you hate the taste, or they are too old

Dry hopped homemade hot sauce is quite good!

Now, this is an idea I was looking for! Thanks! Have you done this before? If so would I just, essentially, be dry-hopping the hot sauce?

I have! Lacto ferment chopped peppers and garlic about 1 week then dry hop for another week. Comes out fantastic!

Freeze them and follow the suggestions already listed.
Use them when you are ready.
