Goose island was not asking 20 dollars for a 16oz bottle despite what your local store may have tried to charge you. 8.99 and 9.99 per bottle has been the price for the last two years in every state I've lived, worked
And traveled to. That's significantly less than 1.00/oz for tweak, all day. Someone's jerking you around.

I got to try it for the first time a year or two ago when it came to CA for the first time. I wasn't impressed. Just today I went into a local liquor store and asked what was new; the guy almost sounded incredulous when I didn't want KBS.

I guess maybe this is what it's like to finally try Pliny for the first time at this point? Though I think, judging for their styles, Pliny is a much better beer.

FWIW, I still think Abyss (regular, not the variants) is still one of the best beers out there and stands the test of time, so I'd like to think I'm being objective about KBS.

I tried it for the first time the other day. I liked it a lot- it's a very, very well made beer- but I wouldn't go crazy for it. It's not quite on par with stouts like Parabola, BBA Dark Star, or Crux's 2015 Tough Love, but it's its own unique thing and I'd definitely get it again if I see it around.

Just walked out of another favorite bar of mine &they had 5 1/6th barrel kegs sitting in storage. Talked to the guy in charge of ordering beer for the bar, and he said those kegs would probably not go on tap for another 6 months or so. Will be interesting to see how fast those kegs blow once it goes on tap.

KBS might be the most balanced BA Stout I have tried, and I have had plenty. It is so well put together. No ingredient used in excess (that includes the barrel aging)

    Anyway, just my opinion

I just celebrated my 59th birthday indulging in bourbon barrels stouts. After indulging in several variants when I got to the KBS I found it to be very good but a little coffee forward. But it still is a great beer.

Living out west I only started seeing KBS a couple years ago (wasn't looking hard) but definitely more now. I have had my share of BA stouts; this one will always be welcome in my home.

They must of beefed up production as I traveled last week there were 4-packs still on store shelves.

Even at your price point I am getting ripped off. It used to be $20 for 48 oz, now its $20 for 32oz. The math still works out in my favor. I refuse to pay more when no appreciable increase in production costs has occurred.

KBS is a pioneer, it laid the groundwork for all of the beers you listed. It may be antiquated now, but it was hot shit when the brewers you list were cutting their teeth. I do agree that KDS is a superior beer, but without KBS would the ba stout and it's variants be were it is today?

One of my local Liquor stores still has like 4 4packs. I was thinking of getting one, but I went with something else.

Calm down, dude. I'm not saying it's not a pioneer, nor am I saying it's not a good beer.

Damn. I would kill to live someplace where cases of kbs just sat for a few days or so. Here it still flys off the shelf.

If by "go crazy" you mean "get up at 6 a.m. to go to the grocery store for a chance to pick up two bottles at $5.99 each," then they do here. The W&S manager at the HyVee store where I bought mine said they weren't trying to gouge anybody. I appreciated that, especially considering what some stores are charging.

I'm staring at two and a half cases in North Myrtle beach right at $25/four pack a pop. Geez. Picked up another four pack but damn would I have liked to buy it all. No limit either

I ended up finding a few bombers that i ended up paying the premium for (compared to the 4 packs) because I learned that my wife likes it just as much as I do, and I'all pay a little extra for something that I can have vs not have at all. The difference being of course that between this and something like Harvey tune ola Dubh 18 year reserve, that's i can get it if I want it at $10/12 oz. But I cannot get that for KBS unless I buy it RIGHT NOW. So I did.

KBS is still a great beer and I still personally prefer it by a wide margin over Parabola and even moreso over Bourbon County.

I live in NY and pay less per ounce than I would for Parabola.

Not surprised to see people putting the knock on it, not necessarily here but all over youtube.

Never thought I would say this but KBS is actually a reasonably balanced, solid beer in a phase we appear to be going through which rewards beers for being circus acts.

They could try harder. Here in SD, just up the road from you, fours are selling for a fairly high $21.99. You are effectively paying $23.96 a 4-pack. Some places in the US are paying just under $20, while others are well over $30. I suppose some distributors may be taking a larger share, but probably we're mostly seeing the retailers getting what they can, walking the fine line of good business of maximizing profits - and risking being seen as opportunists.
