Burned on more thank you beers than trades. One guy actually said he liked to do "big surprise" extras. He had a good track record and I agreed and included some heavy hitter bottles in addition to the trade which was heavy hitters. He profusely thanked me but said I must have misunderstood him. I received 3 local cans of mediocre beer. Saved his name and not trading with him again.

Nobody is on BEX and the user interface sucks. I have done maybe 3 trades on there and those were maybe a couple of four packs of Aslin for some random beer that piqued my interest.

I've actually found that plenty of people on FB I've traded with don't even know what "extras" are when I bring them up.

I don't do much true trading anymore but I gravitate to FB for local IP trades and BA for anything involving shipping. IP I don't have to worry much about getting screwed so the convenience and visibility of FB is a benefit. If I'm shipping I prefer the vetting/accountability of BA.

While people do trade on other outlets....I think trades being completed and discussed on DM is being underestimated by the op.

I look over the 'feedback' page and see how many trades get left feedback per day. It's not straight science but it gives good insight. I see on average around 15-20 feedback comments left per day. Not a terrible pace for trading.

I would also comment that posts are not typically marked closed so looking through the trade forums gives the impression that nothing gets traded.

Plenty of people (myself included) delete their posts when they're closed which also makes it look like less trades are getting closed, and I suppose even makes it look like less trading is even being attempted.

Curious...why do you and others delete your posts when they are closed? Why wouldn't you just update them as closed and lock them so people can reference your closed trades?

Agreed.Having info of closed trades is very helpful to others.

I always found that to be an odd move, deleting upon closing. It’s even listed in the trading “Pro Tips” on here:
    • Delete your post when your offer is complete, lock it, or reply noting that it's closed.
If certainly deleted trade posts when I’ve gotten no traction, but not when I’ve closed.

I wish more people went through and actually indicated in the post that it closed. I think those that don’t far outweigh those that do and I see many posts where people reply and ask if a trade is closed. There’s no indication in the post and then the OP replies, oh yeah, closed this already. Well, lock the thread, reply to thread, etc. If you went through effort to create the post, finish it up.

This is interesting to me and yes Im one of those that typically will write "closed' after I make a trade as a reply and then I'll have the thread deleted a day later. I try and post what I can in the completed if it's a trending beer. But, you're right this information would be good to maintain.

I do this mainly because I'm sure the server is getting clogged up and realistically I wonder if most people that are posting the same trade everyday delete their old threads.

For sure. Totally on board with deleting old posts, etc., for server space. I also think old posts that haven't closed should be deleted by a person if they are going to post a fresh one - I've definitely done that.

Any trade post not locked AND updated with "closed" as well as relative closing info should be deleted since it's not helping anyone otherwise.

I think having this info helps those less in the know and navigating the trade forums as a good starting point potentially for their own ISO/FT post.

In my defense as a deleter, I usually do list the trade in the "completed trades" threads which seem more directly useful although obviously not every beer has a thread there.

I feel like we were encouraged by BA to delete closed threads at one point but maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else.

My monthly bills to UPS and USPS suggest that trades complete here more than my wallet would prefer.
