Do we have a homebrewer "network" or directory?

@Todd or @Jason ...is there any way to add city to profiles as an optional category here on BA? What are your thoughts on what this thread is discussing? Can we get this done through BA or should we look for an external source for a database?
    Thanks for your time!

We used to have a city field, but too many put garbage and spam into it. We'd need to find a fixed solution, but that would require quite a bit of work. So ... I don't see it happening any time soon given our current workload and goals.

It may be just as well that a City field is not available. Some BAs may be perfectly willing to list their City on BA but not necessarily signing up for travelers to contact them. I think the list/database/whatever should be explicit about what participants are getting themselves into.

@VikeMan I do think that there would be some value to it for sure. However, I have not been able to think of a way to keep people private from public facing sites. As some people were concerned with that and it being able to be moderated. Do you have any thoughts?

You could hang it on blog site that only you can edit. Or put a read-only document on google drive. As far as the public seeing it... if you limit the information to BeerAdvocate Name, State, and Locale, there's no personally identifying information being shared with anyone stumbing across it. Any sharing would be private, via BeerMails (i.e. BeerAdvocate "conversations"). Anyone who doesn't want their BA name association with a Locale doesn't have to participate. You could give the address of the site to people via BeerMails when they BeerMail you to ask to be added.

You could include the ground rules in the blog/document.

Also, the "locale" could be as general or specific as the participant chooses.

Everyone should simply make their usernames "NameFromCity" and it would be super easy and no one would ever end up moving to a different state I was so sure

You're "CurtFromHershey" not "CurtInHershey." So you're good. I think. Are you actually from Hershey?

You guys know where I am, and I would gladly attempt to meet up for a beer if anybody finds themselves here.

Cool. That read only google drive is probably a great option. I will do it in google sheets in case the mods ever want a .csv file to incorporate into their websit
I come every year to visit for about 2 weeks over christmas! Let's do it!

Oddly enough, no. Nor did I ever actually live in Hershey. I grew up about an hour north of Philly in the Allentown area, went to college in the Hershey area, got a job in that area, but always lived in neighboring towns. I then moved to Minnesota for work early last year. My user name really should be "CurtWhoSpentADecentPortionOfHisEarlyAdultLifeNearHershey"

Mine is the one on the right, and compared pretty favorably (imho) to the others. At the time, I had connections to the sensory lab - now they are either retired or I had cajoled into quitting. And by cajoled, I mean I ...

Well, another time for that story.
