Do you add new beers to BA?

I've added 732 beers to this site. A lot of them are local or when I visit breweries. However, there are times when I add beers from larger production breweries. Those ones catch me off guard.

All that being said, reviews and even ratings appear to be way less frequent than they used to be. It's crazy to go to Top Beers and then click on low population states. Some of those states barely have 50 beers on the list. Wyoming has 56, meaning only 56 six beers made in Wyoming have 10 reviews. I'm sure Melvin Brewing probably has 56 beers with 100 checkins/rating on Untappd.

 

I always add any new beers I have that are not in the database.

 

I travel to Europe at least once a year and try to enjoy as many new beers as possible while I'm there. As BeerAdvocate is U.S. based most of those beers are not listed so I add what I can.

Sometimes when I've had a beer on tap, and sometimes even when I have a bottle label in front of me, I just can't come up with the information needed to add it (regarding the brewery information mainly). I do try though.

... I just looked it up, I have 982 beers added. Back when I started tasting beers I'd have imagined that that was about the maximum number of beers I could possibly ever taste and now there's a new beer (or two, or three, or four) born in the U.S. every single day! WOW!!!

 

MAIS OUI! For me, it is a several-step process: 1) Take & resize what I believe to be an approvable picture; 2) Add the beer's name & stats to the database; 3) Submit Step 1 picture for approval; 4) Await acceptance of Step 1 Pic (MUCH quicker in this day & age); 5) Do some research for "Notes/Commercial Description" & submit them for inclusion; 6) Open said beer & do BOTH a review & rating. Voila!

Current personal stats: Beers Added: 265 | Pics Uploaded: 885; Places Added: 37 | Pics Uploaded: 85.

 

Well, I don't add every little thing that comes my way, just those that may be of interest to members within the distribution area.

 

Cool. What if the brewery website isn't helpful?
I resort to using Untappd for a beer's info until I find otherwise...

 

I do a quick review on most beers I try and if they aren't listed on here, I always make sure to add them.

 

I add beers whenever I have knew that isn't listed, and sometimes others on a tap list. I think this forum is the best for beer discussion on line and I'm going to add any information I think is valuable, beers, places, breweries, really anything I feel needs to be on here. Yelp sucks for beer centric places, to many places with great reviews and shifty selection. That being said there are tons of breweries that really aren't note worthy and having their beers listed isn't really going to make a huge difference I still like to add the,.

 

It would be nice.

I've added several beers and places. Why wouldn't someone who is active on Beer Advocate not add a beer or place?!

 

I was going to create a thread in BA talk but I figured this would be a good place since there are some very experienced “beer-adders.”

Is it possible to add “Notes/Commercial” description when adding a beer? I’ve always wanted to add these notes, and I often see them written for other beers. I just can’t figure out how to do it myself.

Edit: I add a beer I’ve had every time it’s missing. I’ve added 33 beers and 3 places.

 

You have to do it after you add the beer. Go to the top of the beer page, and click the drop down that says "beer tools" > suggest edit. Then put in the notes, and put change type as notes. I put in change requests for stuff all the time. Just needs to be approved by a site editor.

Yes, all the time, partly because I'm constantly visiting new places that don't have their beers listed here. But please, do your due diligence and don't duplicate beers that are already present on the site, and be particularly careful with collabs. Just because a brewery is a part of a collab doesn't mean they brewed it as well.
