Never announce extras or they are not extras!

Fuck no! You wouldn't announce a porch bombing in advance now, would you? Given that its a known offense around these parts, neither would I.

No, xtras are xtras, they've added willingly, but I do check the wants list to see if I can over lap.

If it's someone I've traded with before I will, sometimes. A new trader usually I will not. I take my cues from the conversation and the individual. Every trade is different.

I only mention extras to gauge if a new trading partner wants to do them or not.

Otherwise, in the box they go, surprise!

No – extras are extra. My general philosophy: Under-promise. Over-deliver.

With my regulars, I never say extras are on the way.

With IP trades, I tend to say I'm bringing extras so that the person can be prepared to accommodate that I've brought more beers than planned (nothing worse than being on the train not able to bag/box all the beers). Haha

Getting cool unknowns is the best part of trading sometimes. I love opening a box and seeing something I didn't know was coming.

The only thing I discuss, as others have said, is whether we are doing extras, and what styles people like.

I always just send them. Even if I'm trading to someone in my state I add one or 2. If someone out of distro 3-4 is normal.

I only announce no extras - for example if I'm shipping glassware. Generally, I just throw some in though. Extras are extras and not to be expected.

I've only asked for numbers so I can match but that's more because I'm new to this trading thing.

I like to ask if extras or not.No biggie either way, but I like to match the other person.I never announce exactly what I'm sending.

After all, lots of times, extras are the best part of the box!

    Cheers

As a few others have said, I treat extras as a surprise, the icing on the cake (or for a better analogy, the icing in between layers of the cake).

If I added what I did for a specific reason (the non-BA version of something perhaps, rather than just 'something above and beyond the agreed upon terms) then I'll add a note to the box or tell them about it after the box has been opened, but I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise.

Frankly though the vast majority of my trades have had at least one side, if not both, be blind boxes; in that case the entire box is a surprise.

This is why I rarely have both sides ship at the same time, I love being the recipient first so that I can be sure to respond appropriately without feeling the need waste shipping money on a second box.

I check to see which styles trading partners like or dislike to customize the extras I send. What's the point of giving trading partners beers they're not going to like???

You can check that without asking/telling them extras are coming. Check their wants. See what they've been ISO in the past, etc.
