So last Sunday my girlfriend and I planned to go to "Beerunch" at Prison City. She always takes forever to get ready, so while she was doing that I got the kids packed and ready to go to Grandma's. After she's finally done getting ready, it's my turn. Of course by then the kids are hungry, fussy and ready to leave, so I had about 5 min to get ready myself. Knowing that I would be having a beer in 30min or less, I had quite the internal debate about whether or not I should brush my teeth before leaving. I ended up brushing them, but I will admit that this is not the first time I've run into this debacle and I've also made the choice to skip brushing (judge away BA, I don't want a minty beer). So what say you BA? To brush or not to brush, that is the question...

tl;dr if you are going to be drinking imminently (let's say in 15 min or less) would you brush your teeth beforehand?

This dilemma occurs so infrequently that I’ve never even thought about it. But I’m in the brush camp.

Right before? I'd be really reluctant, but if the situation dictated it, I'd be sure to rinse like hell, and even drink a glass of water when I got there first.

Right before, nope. 20+ minutes before, sure. Can't say I usually find myself in that dilemma much either though.

Brush your teeth, drink a glass of water, and you're good to go. If you think you need to brush your teeth you do.

I voted yes, oral hygiene is a priority in my life. Right before having a beer no I wouldn't, it would just taste gross.

I go out of my way to avoid brushing my teeth (or drinking coffee, or chewing gum for that matter) before going to a bar or brewery, but the scenario does not really come up all that often. But if I felt my breath was that kickin I’d go ahead and brush/wash despite the planned beer consumption.

The toothpaste I use makes anything citrusy taste like crap. Or maybe they all do, I don't know. In any case, no.

I opened this thread thinking this was going to be some sort of odd marketing scheme/news article telling me the statistics on the importance of brushing my teeth before going to the bar.

    Boy, was I wrong.

    No wonder I'm divorced.

edit: to answer your question, no. I have no one to impress. I'm a hick not a hipster.

I will add that I'm a brush first then rinse with Listerine guy. The Listerine always gets skipped if I'll be drinking soon.

If my teeth need to be brushed, I'm brushing them. Bad breath is really off-putting.

Toothpaste has Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in it. That is a type of soap.

It will seriously throw off your sense of taste.

Brushing teeth even with mint toothpaste won't affect your enjoyment of beer, unless its like 5 min. or less afterwards. Do you drink beer with or after highly seasoned food? Same concept, just wait a little while.

My wife will brush her teeth immediately before going out for a meal. I've never understood the use of this.

I brush teeth after dry cereal in the morning, and right before bed when I'm done eating or drinking anything other than water.

I get up, get a beer out of the fridge and set it on the counter, feed and/or walk the animals, drink the beer I sat out to warm up, maybe eat something...then brush my teeth.

No. But I go out of my way to make sure I do nasal irrigation with a Neti pot before drinking. Opens up the pineal gland.

If I'm consuming anything other than coffee or water within 30 minutes, I brush without paste. Good technique will still do what you need to do.

I brush my teeth once per day in the morning. Whether they need it or not. Most of the time I skip Sundays. I have straight, clean teeth that are just off white (not luminescent like people on TV) and I've never had a cavity in my 42 years. Brushing your teeth just makes them clean, it doesn't prevent cavities or bad breath. Just sayin'.

And what do your gums have to say about that?

You're obviously doing enough with the once a day routine, but if you're implying that it's not for health reasons, or that people could do with skipping altogether, that would be incorrect.
