I eat out most lunches and dinners, so I brush as soon as I get home. Ideally, I can wait at least two hours to have my beer. Sometimes, I just don't have that much time to spare and that is hardly the ideal situation; the taste of the toothpaste (Arm & Hammer Baking Soda & Peroxide) is just too intrusive, even after multiple rinses.

If this is really a thing, I'm clearly on the wrong site

Toothpaste is supposed to coat your mouth, it's antibacterial and keeps working while you're asleep if you don't rinse it all away. Having said that I drank a stout once right after brushing my teeth and it wasn't too great. Anything real citrusy would be terrible.

I think I'd throw "wash hands" somewhere in the middle.

I've always seen it as "SSS" - Shit, Shave, and Shower. Brushing teethe was always implied .

Always brush. But use one of your favorite beers for mouthwash. You don't want to get a funky take on any new beer.

I am still waiting for the next one focused on "should I chew mint gum" before leaving for a brewery LOL.

    No. Hell no.

First of all, I stopped brushing my teeth in the morning like 15 years ago. Constantly scraping your teeth isn't a good thing, especially before or after you eat as your enamel softens, and especially when you brushed them before you went to bed. You did brush your teeth before you went to bed, right? I mean, if so, waking up and brushing again is like brushing your teeth twice. It's pointless.

And it doesn't make your breath smell better either. That comes straight out of your throat, usually from pieces of food stuck in areas a brush never touches. Or else bacterial issues that need taken care of (preferably with probiotics, and not anti).

Second, toothpaste absolutely ruins the flavor of any kind of food or drink product for like 15-30 minutes thereafter. I guess if you really are anal retentive and feel the need to brush your teeth that frequently, don't use paste.

I didn't read any other posts in this thread, but agree with all points here. My wife and kids think I'm gross for not brushing my teeth in the am. Umm, I brushed them right before bed then woke up, and no gremlins came in and planted sugar bombs everywhere.

By what process does that happen?

Unless you sleep with your mouth open, which would dry out your mucosa, your breath is probably going to need a little freshening in the morning. I mean, you could simply eat something and/or drink some fluids and accomplish the same end, but brushing is one option.

I go to the dentist every afternoon for a full cleaning before I start to drink!

From Delta Dental: Acid softens your enamel, so brushing immediately after eating or drinking high-acid foods or drinks can actually cause damage.

So, not all foods, but if you're drinking coffee, oj, eating jelly on your toast, other fruits, etc...or more simply put, eating many of the things people tend to eat before brushing their teeth in the morning.

I opt for the gnawing-on-pork-chop breath freshener method.

This bit's more than a little exaggerated. If acid softens it, what makes it hard again? Besides that, enamel is the hardest substance in the body, it's going to take prolonged exposure to strong acid, without the buffering and dilution that saliva accomplishes, to erode your teeth, with or without brushing.

That said, brush or don't brush. All it does is clean your teeth. It doesn't make them healthier.

A piece of rye toast with cream cheese topped with Trader Joe’s “Everything But the Bagel” seasoning accompanied by a cup of coffee killed my morning breath quite nicely, thank you, and would have nullified any good brushing would have done.

I'm not going to brush and have a beer immediately afterwards, but after 15 minutes I think the post brush after effects are greatly diminished and my teeth are clean.

Exactly. If I know I'm going to have beer (or other refreshments) and feel I need to brush, I certainly don't brush with toothpaste.
Most toothpastes are made with saccharine, which leaves a terrible taste in the mouth. My dentist says that the best thing to brush with in general is simple baking soda...its just as effective as toothpaste, and it doesn't leave any aftertaste.
