I can honestly say I have never bought a case of beer in my life (no, I'm not 'better' than you and I understand why people buy cases), but I don't want to be strapped down with 24 of the same beer, I need variety! Also, I really don't see cases too often anymore, maybe because they take up a lot of shelf space?

I actually just bought a case of beer today from Costco. It was the New Belgium mix case with Summer Bliss, 1985 IPA, Voodoo Ranger IPA, and Mountain time. Before that I had bought the Sierra mix case. So that is really the only time I buy a case. The Costco bulk mentality makes it seem like a good idea when I'm shopping there.

12? Yes, a few times a year, but rarely all of the same beer (i.e., usually a variety pack of something).

24? Once or twice per summer--always Busch Light; always at the lake.

Yes I buy cases but sparingly.

I usually keep a rotating case/30 pack of Miller Lite for friends who don't like craft. On the other end of the quality spectrum, I buy cases when I make the pilgrimage to Treehouse.

In between, I will buy three or four cases per year. Maybe a mix case or two, possibly something like Sam Boston Lager or SNPA for a party, and maybe one seasonal that I really like.

    Cases still serve a purpose.

Staying up to catch Sumo basho live. I'll answer.

I used to get the lower priced brands by the case back in the day when I saw a good deal. Craft beer I often bought a case+ of beer at one time, but rarely all the same beer. Variety is def. my spice of life.

The exception was the two years after ABI took over Goose Island when for some reason my area of NYS got most favored nation status, they flooded us, and I bought cases of Bourbon County, and would have bought many more if I could have afforded. Those cases fueled many tastings (still a bunch of bottles in the cellar). When original Fluctuation was available at Equilibrium I bought by the case(s).

I used to buy a case of Hopslam when it released, now I buy a 6er. I used to buy cases of Toppling Goliath bombers (Pseudo Sue, Golden Nugget, King Sue, etc) when they had no distro, didn’t can, and you had to venture to Decorah to buy their stuff.

Now TG has distro in Tristan Da Cunha (and I believe on Mars - and Jupiter) and cans pretty much everything (the exceptions being their big boy stouts like KBBS and Mornin’ Delight), which means no cases to be had with them.

I did buy a 12-pack of SNPA for the tasting event las week, so that’s a half a case. Does that count? :sunglasses:

PS: 10-15 years ago I bought 12-packs of various beers ALL the time. I think before the SNPA purchase, the last 12-pack I acquired was Summerfest in the spring of 2020.

We know how THAT sad story turned out.

Great topic, BTW, Jack. I think we’ll see that us beer nerds for the most part are a fickle lot.

Yeah, we BAs like variety. I am one of those guys and for example last evening my wife and I visited a local craft brewery's tasting room and I ordered three different beers:
    • Kolsch
    • Vienna Lager (served via a side-pull tap/faucet)
    • Schwarzbier
I enjoyed every one of those differing beers.

    Cheers!

Yes but only for specific occasions like camping, hosting etc. I never buy a case for personal at home consumption. Recently, went on a guys mtn bike trip so picked up two Sierra Nevada cases in cans from Costco. Can’t beat $25 for 24 beers

I haven't bought a case since college. Now I'm so into new-to-me singles that I rarely buy any packs, and when I do it's a 2-pack or 4-pack.

Not since I lived in PA. Which was a major pain in the ass when you want diversity.
Of course they changed the laws after I moved to FL.
Now the only time I "buy a case" is if/when there is BOGO at Publix or a great deal on 4/6 packs at ABC.

Never and rarely buy 12 packs. I like to change it up often, like each beer!

The only beer I bought by the case is 208, the beer I enjoy on a regular is too expensive. I generally buy only a couple.

What I guess I find odd, is that your experience isn't typical. Personally, I don't visit Brewery taprooms very often (Moonlight, Sante Adarius, Sierra Nevada Chico, Wayfinder and pfreim were rhe most recent). When I do, I always try a number of different offerings. I can't remember the last time I bought more than a single glass of the same beer at a brewery tap room.

I generally buy this beer by the case :

(Bearded Iris Homestyle)...because we don't get it here and it's my favorite non-"DDH / imperial / super fancy" etc IPA ever. So when I'm in the area I have to estimate about how much I'll drink before the next time I make it back and before it goes completely ass-over-tea-kettle (haven't had one do that yet even at 6 months :scream:, but maybe I've just got lovey dovey blinders on).

That and maybe Parish's Ghost In The Machine. But I don't make it to Louisiana as often as Tennessee so that's maybe a once a year or once every 18 months kinda deal. GITM is a touch easier on the wallet though. A case of Homestyle will kick you in the crotch at about $100 w/tax. GITM is probably more like $75. No regrets though bois
