?

Do you have a method allowing you to circumvent bottle limits (whether you choose to use it or not)?

Agreed. Get a few beer mules, buy their rounds and share with them what you trade for. That's my approach.

Yes it is tricky, there are certainly some grey areas and situations where grabbing an extra bottle may be acceptable. If there is someone you know personally that really wants to try it and would otherwise be there at the store if they could, I'm not going to be upset if you get one for them. It's the people that cheat the limit to get more for themselves or to post as trade bait that are stealing.

I follow a stores limit. However in CA if something is limited you can usually go to Bevmo where it's fucking thunderdome and there are no rules. Most stores limit things like abyss or bcbs or firestone series beers but bevmo just puts them on the shelves. But it may also be to lack of people buying at them. Abyss and Sucaba is still on shelves here.

I bring my wife with me on Black Friday (BCBS) and KBS day at the local Binny's which means I get 8 BCBS and 4 KBS instead of 4 and 2. She will drink one or two but for the most part she is my hired mule. If this is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I have to admit I went into a place in Mass at 8 am and there were a case of be hoppy on the shelf with a sign that said 1 4pk per customer. I went to a cashier, I thought would be oblivious, and bought the the whole case. I felt some what bad.

People wait in line? I just look on the shelves and buy something good. Went to a store last week and saw 4 BA Bigfoots, bought 2, nice.

Like @cavedave said they are in place to give everyone a chance at getting some of the limited release(s).

However, if I was able to get more than the store allotted amount and I had the funds available....I would probably do it.

And a lot of stores who save the good stuff for their so-called good customers, will then lose potential new customers. If they never get a shot at the "good" stuff, no reason to go back to that store. That's what I do.

Knowingly taking advantage of someone's ignorance to circumvent a fair rule that allows as many people as possible to purchase a hard to get beer, as is the brewery's intention? Yes, you're a bad person.

Ive gone to pick up brewery only releases on multiple days, when the stated policy is one per person per day. I don't feel its the same as going through the line multiple times in the same day or bringing mules, although the goal may be similar to pickup more than one bottle.

I've gone store hopping to land more than the allotment of a limited release, but never tried to circumvent the rules of one specific store. The latest KBS release, for example... although dozens of stores around me got multiple cases, I found only 2 stores that were selling 4-packs, one of which was holding their entire allotment (I heard 5 cases) for their friends and "regulars". The other store selling 4-packs put them on sale at 2pm and they were gone before 2:30. For someone with a regular job, that really sucks to miss out on. So yes, I bounced from store to store, hitting maybe 8 of them just to end up with 10 bottles of KBS - some to drink, some to share, some to cellar.

As for limited brewery-only releases, it's fair game to bring a friend or significant other who might not drink the beer themselves. If I have to sit in outlet stores for hours on end while she shops for her clothes, the least she can do is wait with me in a beer line once or twice a year.

I do not try and get around any limit set in place at any store. I also will not chase product around town once I get my allotment from a store. This isn't necessarily all out of some Jiminy Cricket mindset, but due to the fact I haven't the time or money to play those games even if I wanted to. What I have happed upon after initial releases are coveted beers that went un-purchased at off the beaten path stores that wouldn't' even know to place limits on bottles and likely didn't' have to since the stuff was still sitting there some time after release. Even then I may buy "a" bottle or a single four/six pack (depending on how it's offered) I won't clean them out because of the cost factor.

Edit* - I can't comment on releases at breweries because I just don't go to them, so that entire side of limits is alien to me as far as circumvention.

Yeah, this. In fact, I won't even take the last single of something at a bottle shop, unless there's only one left.

I have a store that will set aside the limited stuff for me. They won't usually hold any more for me than the limit, which is fine. Another local store occasionally does raffles. I will enter the raffle for a few extras. If I am lucky enough to win the raffle, I usually trade those to people who can't get said beer in their area, if I don't win, I don't sweat it. Rarely do I drink any more than 1 or 2 limited beers. I usually send them out to fellow beer enthusiasts who don't have access to it.

I know a dude who had the week off when KBS released a year ago, and he went to 12 different stores and got 15 bottles. Not sure what he was planning with all of them.

I've used my mom as a mule! If the limit is under 8 there's a good chance I will try to take it there.
