I definitely abide by limits, but I've got 4-5 shops on my weekly rotation, so I usually wind up with as much as I want of most releases.

My wife has purchased more awesome beers than any other non-beer drinker around.

I do not think buying a bottle at a different store is exceeding any limit, but I rarely have the resources to make that happen. For most rare beers, I am happy to get my allotment and move on, not out of high-minded civility, but just based on the fact that most rare bottles cost, and I'd rather spend the money getting other beers, not stacking up multiples of a single, pricey one.

My problem is that my girlfriend is as much of a craft beer geek as I am, so bringing her along doesn't get me additional bottles. Though, her cellar is probably nicer than mine, so it all works out in the end. Overall, I pretty much buy within bottle limits because it isn't worth the hassle to herd mules or truck chase.

Yes...at the store near me if there is a limit I buy the bottle or two.....go to my car and come back in. I have only done this twice but feel there is nothing wrong.

    Enjoy

Thank you for all the responses folks. Interesting to see the poll %'s. I am definitely surprised.

Nearly 1 in 10 people on this site actually "know a guy!" I know we are all a bunch of beer nerds here, but I just didn't realize so many had friends in the beer industry. Perhaps it has something to do with the industry exploding, and the amount of jobs it has created.

I abide by bottle limits but I have 6 stores that I am on the "preferred customer" list so I get first go at all special releases. I won't take advantage of a single store though as I think that's just plain crass and greedy.

Worst I've done to get around a limit:

Sent the wife to get a bottle for me.
Come back the next day and bought another.
Bought something that was 1 per while I was shopping with a friend who wanted 2.

Otherwise, I mostly accept my fate and just get angry when people post a pic of 6 Parabolas or whatever.

As much as I hate limits (looking at you, single bottle of BCBS or BCBCS) I also abide by them happily since I know they are in place to 'spread the wealth'. I've even had the guy at my local bottle shop offer for me to take more than the limit, but I refuse for the sake of the next person.

I say that and I still bitch and moan about the ridiculous gap between some of the supply and demand in my area.

Only time I circumvented a limit was when I visited Treehouse. Guy behind me, actually more like a kid, was told by friends he had to get Julius for everyone. It was only on for growlers and he had no interest in cans. Asked him if he would buy them for me with cash I gave him, since it was one beer/6 can limit. He had no problem. Gave him a can to have.

Now, when I go into a store, the last thing I am thinking about is, "I better not buy as much as I want, because somebody else may I want to try this." Number one, all those other people could be dicks, or they could be child rapists. Number two, I don't know them from Adam. What the hell do I care if they get to try the beer, or not? I say play the game, its not like your hurting anybody. I take numerous mules with me to bottle releases. I don't feel bad at all.

Limits are fine by me because I don't feel the need to spent ridiculous amounts of money on beer.

I do that every time I'm on cribs. I also stock the fridge with food (so it isn't ALL beer).
