I was shopping for beer today, and along with the usual suspects (IPAs and Tripels), I decided to pick up a few different stouts as well. I hadn't had a good stout in a while, so after enjoying a bottle of 2014 Stone Imperial Stout, I had a minor (and obvious !) moment of clarity : what a fantastic beer for this time of year. A good warmer for a cold winter's night, and at 11% abv, a bit of a sipper. Anyway, it made me wonder : do most of you drink the same styles year-round, or do you alter your purchases to suit the season (e.g. lighter lagers, pale ales, and pilsners, etc.) in the summer, and heavier/higher abv beers and ales (stouts, porters, quads, winter ales, etc.) in the winter months, or do you just mix it up based on price, availability, cravings, or whatever preference you have at the time ?

Drink whatever suits me. Then again I live on the beach in the PNW so "seasons" are kind of nebulous there is the very cold rainy one and the less cold rainy one.

I can't drink the same beers all year around. It begins to become a bit boring for me when I keep having the same. I'm a huge fan of seasonal beers and it also makes me look forward to the next season of beers. Winter time I crave the shit out of Celebration, Stouts, Barleywines and the like. Nice High ABV sippers that'll help you keep warm during the coldest of nights. Spring time comes and I'm looking forward to the lighter offerings or any beer that celebrates the coming of spring.

About the end of February or March I picked up some BBC Cabin Fever Ale which I consider a solid end of winter, winter warmer. I used to love SN's Glissade and the other spring offerings. Come summer I'm into GI 312 Urban Wheat and Urban Pale an, SN's summerfest, SN Pale ale, etc. Fall comes around and I can't help but explore all of the pumpkin ales, Thanksgiving and Christmas beers.

I'm always up for anything new or different. During the times that nothing new has come out, I definite have my staple beers handy.

Yes, I change with the seasons. On a humid summer's day in Ohio, a stout is the LAST thing I want. But with today's whiteout and negative teens temperatures, I'm currently enjoying a Clown Shoes Chocolate Sombrero. I think if I'd grown up in a "warm" state, I may not have fostered an interest in darker, more savory brews during the fall and winter months.

I drink more whiskey in the colder months but my beers pretty much stay the same styles year round. I like a Mikes hard Blackberry or Lemonade when it's hot on the golf course in the summer. Went to the driving range today IN IDAHO IN FEBRUARY!!!! Earliest ever in the 20+ years I have lived here, 50 and sunny shorts weather for us!!!!

I used to be totally anal about seasonal drinking. I would literally stock up on the seasonals as they came out, and wait until the appropriate time to drink them. This became expensive and annoying, because as I was buying the seasonals all too early, I was also buying the beer I wanted to drink at that time. Times have changed. For starters, I no longer try to consume every seasonal put out by every brewery, so I only purchase seasonals now from the ones I know I like, and usually I don't need to buy them 2 months early because they are always available. I do want to drink winter warmers and Christmas Ales in December though. However, it's now February and I'm already drinking lighter beers and loving it.

I totally drink seasonally. I'm the DIPA queen in the summer, and the stout lover in the winter. hoppy drinks aren't as refreshing to me when it's chilly, and stouts are usually too heavy when it's hot out. A lot of people on BA are not like this, but a few of us are!

I do for a variety of reasons. Though I always drink a decent amount of IPA's.

I drink a lot of seasonal release because I know theyre fresh even without a bottle date.

I also am somewhat effected by the seasons. In the winter I definitely drink more porters and oatmeal stouts. (about to open a Jacks Abby Framminghamer Porter before another f-ing blizzard).

In the summer I drink more Hef's and belgian whits. Also often times at cookouts I'll have more pilners or session IPAs.

I can drink an IPA or IIPA at any point of the year, but with anything else I guess I go by season. Pilsners and lighter beers in the summer. Stouts, Porters and Quads are more enjoyable to me in the colder months.

I absolutely drink beer seasonally. I do not completely rule out drinking a stout in the summer. I drink what appeals to me at the moment. I don't know whether it is just tradition or the seasonal styles are there for a reason, but I gravitate to those.
