Don't do. Rest up and drink tons of water. Most cold medicine warns you against drinking while taking it so give your system a break. Later on marvel at how great that first beer after you recovery tastes and feels.

A couple of pops can make you sleep better, and alcohol does kill germs, but stick to the "less tasty stuff" as a clogged nose will make a good brew taste like nothing and that would be a waste.

Yeah I definitely don't drink beer as I want to smell and taste my beer. I'll maybe do a hot toddy if I have a sore throat. If I'm super congested I'll sip some fernet as I find it's refreshing to actually be able to taste something.

But wouldnt have enough to even catch a buzz. You want to stay hydrated to flush that shit out.

If I were to drink while sick I'd have a single beer with a modest ABV, and it would probably be one of those long-ignored stray bottles in the back of the fridge, remnants of old sixers I didn't much like.

But I've only been sick once in the past twenty-plus years so it doesn't come up. I prefer to credit beer for my good health.

Definitely don't drink when I'm sick, and beer doesn't even sound good, plus the flavors are all off. I just drink water and rest and leave the beers for a better day. If drinking while you are sick works for you though, then do your thing!

I still drink even when sick. The only thing I change is drink less tasty/exclusive/expensive/rare beers since my taste buds/smell/taste will be off.

I just drink cask-strength bourbon/scotch and eat as much nutritious food as possible. The whiskey certainly doesn't actually help, but it feels like it does so

Nyquil 10 percent alcohol hits all the right black liquorice notes.

I can't imagine myself enjoying a beer if sick. I'd hold off on it if I were you, give your body some rest.

I'm too lazy at the moment to do any actual research, so you will have to take the following as purely anecdotal (and secondarily anecdotal at that). My senior year at Davis I took an Introduction to Brewing class lectured by Charles Bamforth. I remember during one of his lectures he related a story of a British naval captain that had fallen seriously ill, and was declared as good as dead by the medical officers aboard. Seeking an alleviation to his discomfort he called for beer to be brought to him. Once he began to drink beer, his health improved dramatically, and he was able to command his men for the rest of the voyage. (I'm forgetting many things, but this was the gist of the account).

Whenever I feel my throat becoming a bit scratchy, I never hesitate to drink a few beers. Excessive amounts of alcohol have been shown to be detrimental to your immune system, but beer has a good amount of nutrients and antioxidants and I think the good outweighs the bad if you keep it in moderation (plus sour beers have probiotics, don't they?). It really just comes down to how you feel; if I feel well enough that I think I will enjoy a beer, I'll have one. If I don't, then I won't.

Drink beer you don't like. You will feel better that night and worse in the morning: I repeat until the sickness can't take it.

Pass when I'm not feeling good. I think drinking and dehydration will prolong illness. Also your senses aren't sharp so don't rate. Rest, recuperate and come back next week with a vengeance.

"How about drinking alcohol? No way. “When you have the flu, the last thing you want to do is drink alcohol,” says William Schaffner, MD, chairman of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. “It makes you sleepy, and flu does that already.”

It depends how sick you are. If you're only mildly sick, I'd say go for it, if you're only going to have a couple. If you're very sick, though, don't do it. Wait until you're feeling better.

When I'm sick with the cold or something, I grab a nice strong bockbier, some spices, boil it and drink it. Makes me fall asleep very quickly.
