Do you drink when you're sick?

I listen to my body. Colds generally don't bother me, but a few years ago I got a 24-36 hour flu, and as much as I love beer, I couldn't even fathom the idea of drinking, so I didn't -- I was too busy feeling like horse shit with a fever and body aches. My body tells me how sick I am whether I want beer or not.

 

Not an alcoholic, so no. I value my health over a couple beers.

 

Been fighting the flu for a week and didn't touch a beer til day 4, not to long after my fever broke. Thought I'd reward myself for pulling through with my favorite - Deschutes Red Chair NWPA, which ended up tasting like a tall, cold glass of dirty bathwater. My sinuses were clogged and my taste was pretty much shot; very disappointing to say the least.

So no, I don't drink while sick, and I'm not sure why anyone would make a habit of it.

 

Hot water, lemon juice, honey and a BIG shot of whiskey before bed

 

I have a bit of a cold right now. I still work, eat, exercise, and yes, still drink! Dammit, I'm a man!

Honestly, I try to just get over whatever is ailing me at the time, in order to get better and enjoy (sense) beer better.

 

If you have a sinus cold drinking is pretty pointless. drinking with an upset stomach will probably make it worse. As long as it won't interfere with any medication, it's not terrible for you. Alcohol does lower your immune system though

 

When I have a virus and the Doctor tells me here is nothing that he or she can give me to cure it but offers up some drugs to lessen the symptoms, I reach for the biggest, hoppiest DIPA I can find.

 

It depends, if I am really sick and/or my stomach hurts, then no. But if I don't feel too bad then yes; it helps me get to sleep.

 

It's a rule for me to absolutely not drink or partake in thing of a herbal variety when sick. Being sick really ruins the taste of a great ipa or stout and that's the main reason I enjoy good beers. It's such a great taste.

 

Do I drink when I am sick? How the hell am I supposed to get any better if I don't drink!?

 

I switch to Buffalo Trace or Jack Daniel's when I have a cold.

 

No,not at all.As much as I love my craft,drinking is the last thing I want to do.

No. If it doesn't taste good or taste at all than I have to begin to wonder why Im drinking the beer..

 

I'm not a hard liquor person but when I'm sick I usually make screwdrivers with good oj and good vodka. Or mimosa's.

 

I have a rotten cold tonight. I don't bother with meds, they don't do much good anyway. Some chicken noodle soup and some delicious barley wine is working pretty well.

 

You should switch to water and only water when you're sick. Alcohol likely prolongs your illness.

 

Only tea, any alcohol prolongs and worsens any sickness I have. I usually give a few days grace after I recover just to be sure. Beer becomes an evil traitor when I get sick.
