I know that may seem like a ridiculous proposition.

Clearly, many people drink beer without eating. But, when eating do you generally want to toss back a brew or two (or three)? For me, the answer is generally no. There are exceptions, like cookouts, when just "grazing" or with some spicy dishes. But, generally, I just like to drink my beer even with great food that pairs well with great beer. So, if I'm out to eat, I may have a beer before my meal, then switch to water/diet-coke/wine (depending on the food) when eating. Then, I may or may not have a post-meal beer.

It has nothing to do with taste. So many great food-beer pairings. For me, I often don't like how it makes me feel, the heaviness of the food and beer together (even when pairing with a lighter, more sessionable beer). But, even that can't be the whole answer, since I'm willing to drink beer before and sometimes after the meal (though, at least for me, it doesn't feel quite the same as drinking it with the meal).

So, it really makes no sense. I just generally like to savor my beer alone. Again, there are exceptions, but overall beer solo. Anyone else?

That's crazy talk! A beer with my dinner is one of the finer pleasures in life.

My brother-in-law is like you though, loves beer but drinks soda with meals. Doesn't compute in my mind, but to each his own.

I posted this a few months back. Most people like it with food, I don't. I can tolerate it sometimes, but I'd prefer to drink before or after eating (mostly before. Empty stomach buzz FTW!).

never really been into paring food and beer but I will drink with a meal and just also have a glass of water for when I get thirsty.

I almost NEVER eat anything with my beer. There's an occasional exception, but the stuff I drink is so substantial, flavorful, and filling that I tend to treat it as food.

I only drink water with food.
Can't drink anything else. I think its the carbonation that bothers me.

I love beer and food, a Daisy Cutter or Torpedo with a pizza? Godlike. But if I want to truly appreciate the beer, I still haven't found a food that I think accentuates beer flavors. If we do a tasting, there are usually just crackers out to cleanse the palate.

I also agree. Its hard to eat w/ something youve never had before, because thatll ruin your experience altogether, beerwise. I usually get really hungry when I drink, and enjoy it thoroughly, but I usually tend to eat with good quality - decent session beers, so as to not miss any flavors from a complex beer, or similar.
Some of my fav go to beers, to eat w/ are -
    Avery's Joe's Premium Pilsner.
    Pedernale's Lobo
    St Arnold's Brown Ale
Dos Equis Lager, or something similar.
