Often. I start work at noon, so there's plenty of time to have a *single* beer and write a review with my late breakfast. Plus, Randy Mosher (author of Tasting Beer) said that your palate is most perceptive mid-morning; he's practically telling me to drink before work.

Hell No!!! I'm a teacher. This isn't the Simpsons where Bart imagines a blended margarita machine in the teacher's lounge. But what an idea!!!:grimacing::grinning:

Not everyone starts work in the morning. Also, the idea that it's wrong to have a drink in the morning is a rather recent social fabrication that doesn't carry across all cultures and doesn't have any real reasoning behind it.

I'm in college so its not unusual for us to drink a beer or 4 before a test that we are really nervous for. As for work, if you work at a bar its more acceptable than an office (trust me I know from experience). However if you have a labor intensive job I do not recommend it. As for jobs that require operating machinery, driving or healthcare...absolutely not!!!! I'm not going to let my drinking endanger others.

I'm retired now so it's a NA question, but in the past, no.

Yea I've noticed the mentions of driving for a living. I still maintain my CDL, even though not driving as a career anymore. No way in Hell anyone should risk losing their CDL, their life, other peoples lives, or their freedom!!!!!!!

My previous employer would actually pay my hotels and meals if staying out on road overnight. Guys would buy a drink or two, but I thought this was utterly INSANE!

During the week, no because I gotta be here by 8 am...but weekends, when I know that there may be one or two coworkers here, I don't mind it. But never to the point of being drunk.

I voted "often" not to be comical or to seem "cool," but because as a writer, I'm often drinking while editing (not hammered, obviously), and it's happened many, many times that I have a drink with a person I'm interviewing.

i think most answers probably have to do with where people work and the work environment.

I think you've discovered the litmus test for problem drinking.

I never drink before work, but I should have made an exception today.

I am a municipal utility worker for my day job, so no drinking before those shifts. In the evening I am a chef. I will have A beer on occasion before I go in to cook. On certain really busy nights we are given shift drinks as well.

It has never given me any problems. I would never want to be working out in traffic after a couple drinks, but I can be sloppy drunk and still cook pretty well.

For me, even thinking about beer is not conducive to work. (Because my mind has a built in hypertext link to Beer Advocate!)

Back in the day brewery workers were allowed to drink on the the job, before the lawyers stopped that.
During breaks and lunch breaks only. Some forklift drivers had beer holders on their lifttrucks.
The question do you drink after work?
