I have no burning desire to be overcharged for beer, so I don't buy 22 oz bottles.

I buy a lot of different bombers (new offerings from a multitude of breweries) and generally am comfortable up to about $12.00. Beyond that, to spend more (and I once paid around $30.00 for a locally produced beer -- good, but not worth the 'bottling' cost -- and the price has dropped substantially since then at local beverage stores), it has to have some pretty high expectations. I picked up a Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary bomber (Jack and Ken's Ale) for about $11.00 and got one hell of a bargain by comparison.

Like many things, price "don't mean doodley-squat" as far as quality and value goes. I generally find the sub-$10.00 bottles have the best value overall, but I'm willing to pay more on rare occasions.

I find it is tougher to spend more on 22oz from normal stores vs brewery only releases.... something about the rarity of brewery only releases

I also try to stay $10 or under, but recently spent $22 for Parabola, so it just depends whether it's something I really want to try.

I was lucky enough to purchase 2 cases of 2013 Parabola at $15.99 a bottle. 6 bottles to drink short term, and 18 to cellar. Thankfully my wife is very understanding!

Spent $23.xx on Imperial Biscotti Break last month. I felt that broke the bank for something that I hadn't tasted before and will more than likely never buy an Evil Twin bottle again. A few days later I purchased a $26.xx bottle of '13 Whiskey Bigfoot. I'd say that's about my high end. If it's not something I'm avidly after, I won't spend more than $15.00.

ephemeral question...dunno, do you have have a $ limit on a bottle of wine. For me, generally $10, but if i'm cooking my special lasagne for good friends, i'll splurge on a barolo or chianti. It it's a birthday or a cheers to a special event, then maybe $20.
If i'm looking to combo a special beer with a certain event...then yeah, my limit is up near $30. But if not, I'm not spending more than $6, $10 for a special beer hitting the shelves. Why am I spending double to quintuple the amount per ounce when packaged in 22oz/750ml compared to 12 oz bottles. I'm just as happy with drinking Torpedo as I am with Sculpin on a nightly basis...sorry BP, I'm spending way more $ with SN than with you even though I enjoy your product, but it's more of a novelty item than a day to day reality.
I've got 2 kids, college funds, day care, summer camps and tons of other expenses to worry about. Love beer, love talking about it, love brewing it and love sharing it with others, but when I know that 5 years ago, that same bottle cost $5 compared to the $13 tag it has on it now...I'll pass.

Spent $20 on Sour in the Rye and $15 on Sucaba.

I think that's about my limit though...couple real bad wants that just fell into my lap so I couldn't say no. Saving those for a special occasion of course.

I don't buy 22oz. bottles unless it's something I'm aging or it's something I know for a fact I'll be sharing with someone else in the near future. Usually if it's a beer that it wouldn't age it just sits around. For example, I've had bottles of Hellhound, DORIS the Destroyer, and some other belgian beers sitting around in my fridge since December.

Strangely, I remember the days where Rogue was considered one of the most expensive beers available in 22-ounce bottles at $5-6 (and this on the east coast); how times have changed.

New Belgium recently released that Hoppy Bock, a heavily hopped, fairly high ABV beer that was lagered, for $4 in my local market. In the recipe, there were fairly high amounts of hops and malts used, and the lagering period would imply that it took more time to "manufacture" than a typical ale would, increasing holding/opportunity cost. Yet, NB kept the price to customers fairly low and likely did not incur a loss on the beer. I doubt they're "making it up in volume," either, as this wasn't a massive release. What does this say about breweries overcharging for limited release or "special" packaging?

Do I have a price limit? Sure. What is it? It depends on the style and ingredients of the beer. I would generally say that I'll not even consider anything over $8 for a 22oz bottle.

I generally like to keep it under $10, but depending on how bad I want something I would probably go about as high as $20. I just bought a handful of bombers online and the most I had to drop was $8 for Victory at Sea. With shipping factored in the bottles averaged $8.40 each which I thought was more than reasonable considering what other sites charge for shipping (and that includes the so-called free shipping on Let's Pour).

$6 is the ceiling for really good beer that only comes in that size. $10 for something more exceptional and/or rare, usually when traveling. $11-$15 solid aging beer. $16 - $20, I will rarely pay this, but have for beers that I know have required a lot of effort and resources to make AND I know that the results are worth it. The only example that comes to mind that I regularly pay this for are the Firestone Anniversary releases and I actually passed on this last one because I thought that the tequila barel aged part of the blend actually ruined the whole beer (at least for me).

Maybe another question to ask if anybody is willing to pay the ridiculous price points for Nebraska Brewing's ho-hum releases?

won't hesitate if it's $12 or under, anything over I gotta look it up to see what people say about the beer to get over the price, hopefully gonna buy a 2011 Parabola this weekend for $50 and age it for a few more years

Dropped $50 on a bottle of Eclipse-Evan Williams at the bar this past Saturday.

Was it worth that much, or would I spend that much on it again... eh, probably not. But it was something I was interested in trying, and more important than that: to share a desirable bottle with good friends and also strangers who became friends over the course of the afternoon, all because of the common love of beer, is what this hobby is all about. Looking at it from that view, $50 felt like a minor investment for a whole lot of beer karma.
