When drinking that Fegley's beer I let it warm up over the course of an hour or so and that thing became more and more like paint thinner the warmer it got.

I voted 'yep' because I do enjoy it in some beers while there are others where I find it completely out of place. Generally speaking, I don't like it in a DIPA as I feel it takes away from the overall enjoyment of the beer. A barleywine or stout however, I may find it more acceptable if it plays well with the other flavors. And in the case of barrel aged beers (primarily bourbon) I enjoy it quite a bit, especially if it's one where I can get multiples of and follow it as it ages.

I was going to vote no, but then I read this post. And I recall several others like it about the perceived booziness to Hoptimum. I'm sure it's there, but I'm not picking up on it. Come to think of it, I haven't picked up on much booziness to many beers over the past year or so.

Perhaps it's time I cut back...um, OK, maybe not. I guess I just like booziness then!

I haven't had any hop forward beers that I would have considered to be boozy, but I think I would find it off putting. On the other hand, boozy undertones in a the bigger stouts/BW (especially BA versions) are good by me. Hoppin Frog's BORIS Imperial Oatmeal Stout and the BA version are both very boozy and super delicious. I am also interested in how the booziness characteristics age over time and have started cellaring a few.

I answered yes, but really it all depends on what beer it really is. Some I've had that are just over the top and I kinda regret and others are great. Personally, and I'm sure most would agree, boozy beers are best drank at room temperature or a little below. It brings out more flavor and lets the booze settle a bit IMO.

Had my first BCBS when it first came out and it wayyyyy too boozy for me. 6 months later it's awesome. Nope on boozy.

A little kiss of booze while drinking is fine. But being kicked in the face as if I were taking a straight shot....no thanks.

I always thought BCS did a good job masking the high ABV but I could understand how it might not be what some people like. But like most of the above people stated, i guess it depends on the beer.

I voted yes. I don't recall having a beer that was too boozy for my taste. I do enjoy the "in your face" beers though.

On the Fegley's train of thought- ever have Spacemonkey? Not boozy, but fun nonetheless.

Now, more on point- I've had things like this and found it truly difficult to finish. But then, I've also had 120, WWS, and a number of beers in the 10-12% range, and I've enjoyed most of them. I'm joining the prevailing thought, and citing balance. If the beer is done well, represents the style, and still boasts double-digit abv that nears 20%, I'm all for it.

I'm for either. I love a smooth beer, I love a hot beer. I love fresh wws

WWS was the first beer I consumed that made me realize how boozy it truly was. When something is 18% I expect it to have boozy burn on the back of the throat as it goes down. It is a nice safety net to prevent me from drinking that stuff as a 4 pack.

I tend to like higher abv stouts than others. Session beers bore me.

Big, bold, bourbon, but not in summer.

Hate them. Victory at Sea is fantastic but the booziness ruins it.

If it's like a slight, tad barely noticeable booziness that's fine but otherwise, I don't like it.

    Yes, no, sometimes

I like boozy beers, when it's intended to be boozy yet hides it's alcohol content well. Sweet Jubilation did not taste like 16%, flying fish exit 16 makes me want to drink a whole 6 pack. WWS (aged), 120, BCS, Ten Fidy, all a good boozy. I thought Doom was too hot for it's abv, Weyerbacher Tiny tasted like it was bourbon barrel aged even though it is not, but I kind of liked it. I'd like to revisit Sucaba, I had it fresh when my palate was not where it is now and thought it was outrageously boozy.

Weather is a factor too. Around a campfire, or in the winter, I like the warmth of booze, summer, not so much.

There's a different example of a beer that tastes boozier than it is but I like it. I really think it's completely random for me. It just depends on the beer itself.

I'm ok with some booziness. I suppose it depends on the style, time of day, my mood, etc. A boozy, warm, RIS snuggling on the couch with my wife late at night sure is wonderful. Now, if I'm having a lager with a lunch salad or something, blech! No booze please.

I have noticed several DFH beers are boozy in a harsh way. If it burns my throat, I'm not a happy camper since it's possible to make a 10%+ beer that is smooth.
