Yeah, I'm really looking for that perfect 43% boozy flavor beer.

High ABV sometimes will be hidden, and that is easier if the fermentation didn't get out of control.

A boozy beer full of fusels is a mess, and says to me - bad hangover.

I would have to say if the alcohol is too overwhelming then yes. I don't mind drinking a 9% if the flavors are bolder than the alcohol. That's goes without saying for all beers though. Who wants to drink a brew that the only thing you taste is alcohol?

I don't really enjoy them much. I don't mind some mild booziness, but I don't want one where booze dominates the flavor.

    It depends on the beer.

At times I do... KBS, BCBS, Mother of all Storms
Overall though I prefer my beer less boozy and more drinkable. That's one reason why I lean towards beer, for the drinking pleasure.

Had my first Goose Island last week. VERY GOOD, although almost too boozy for me. I've kinda weaned off KBS and what not as well. Backwoods Bastard is usually my barometer for booziness threshold. That's about as high as I typically like to go.

Send some Plead The 5th this way then, a very, very small amount made it here (seemingly, at least, not too many stores even got any at all), and was only able to snag two singles, and boy is it really, really, really fucking good. :sunglasses:

Strange, I thought Pt5 (and especially BBPt5) were incredibly smooth and tame considering their relative alcohol content.

I fit is high quality spirit coming through in a BA beer then yes. In some cases also with very big stouts, quads etc. Everything else it is a flaw as far as I am concerned.

I don't like Booze Bombs (which I think of as inherently unbalanced, based on the name), so I voted "No" for your poll. However, I love barley wines, imperial stouts, strong Belgians, etc that are very strong beers. In those cases, I like the boozy note that goes along with all the other big flavors and thick body. A beer can be boozy as hell and be ok if it is fairly balanced overall. Then again, I think Bush Ambree is balanced and not too boozy, so I am apparently in the minority in my approval of booziness, despite how I voted in your poll. Now even I'm confused about how I feel on booziness...

If I drink a high-ABV beer, I expect to taste that number. It's that simple.

Through much experimentation (and not a little bit of money along the way), I discovered that 12% is as high as I generally like to go. I understand the argument that different styles can stand up to higher ABV, but I've learned to just pass on anything above 12%.

no, hate it ... i drink beer to taste beer, and now that i know what good beer tastes like, i want to taste it even more, not alcohol

I wish all the beers I loved were under 8% or so. Those 22oz bombers at 10% are too much.

    Simple question requires not-so-simple answer.

It depends. To me, "boozy" can be a flaw, or not. Tasting the alcohol is not a flaw, imho, but having the alcohol mask the other flavors is.

Example of a boozy beer I like: Boulevard Tripel Julep

Example of a boozy beer I don't: Samuel Adams Double Wit

Part of that distinction likely comes from the fact that a tripel, to me, accommodates the alcohol flavor better than a witbier. So, style is a factor, but I think that my mood also plays into it.

No. If it's considered boozy that means it's unbalanced.
