Generally, I'd say no on boozy beers. If I want to drink whiskey, then I will sit with a nice scotch or bourbon instead of a beer. There are a few high alcohol beers that are done right, but more often than not I stay away if the alcohol bite is too harsh.

No. Alcohol should be a balancing element. Not a featured character in beer.

I like booze in beers but not too boozy. Want to taste the beer!

I don't mind boozy (I actually like the flavor of alcohol), but I hate cloying sweetness. I find many "boozy" beers to be cloyingly sweet. I am not really sure how to answer the poll.

Having voted "yep", I should also add that I like drinking bourbon straight, with a few rocks. Given that, most of the beers people deem "boozy" just taste like beer to me.

One of the few that I've had that I'd consider a "boozefest" was Double Bastard. Hot and boozy as hell...but I liked it anyway.

I've never let ABV or a reputation as a "booze bomb" hinder me from trying new brews, especially KBS or Double Bastard. Like others have said the key is to have the alcohol be in the background and let the true flavors of the beer shine through. That being said if the beer's flavor is heavily alcoholic I'm more than likely not going to revisit it.

Lots of good beers are "unbalanced". I appreciate a beer that works a plethora of flavors together in a symphony of taste as much as the next guy, but there are plenty of quality beers that have a pretty dominant flavor profile (aka, are unbalanced).

If its boozy in the sense that its whiskey or bourbon like in flavor I like and enjoy Some of that. If the beer is out and out HOT, meaning its either brewed wrong or not aged enough. age I can fix, but just a brewed wrong mess.
Still one person hot is another's great beer. To each his own. I guess when i say boozy I mean the beer is too hot ABV wise for me, and boy is that a rare thing. :grinning:

I too didn't find any "boozyness" inn hoptimum. Just a great tasting well balanced beer.

The bcbs I had was a little boozy compared to kbs which I think has a nice balance. I think the coffee helps to balance the boozy taste. Also wws is quite boozy but I can appriciate it because that is the point. After 15% it starts to become a novelty to me.

Yep, love em. But I will say theres a big difference between boozy and harsh. I don't like harsh.
