He's just thinking of each beer in "standard drink" units. It's a way to avoid the cheating way of treating Black Tuesday as "Oh, I'm just having one, honey."

1-2 standard drinks in a sitting is considered moderate and healthy. 2-3 nights off a week is also considered moderate and healthy. Whether you choose to exceed that is entirely personal and related to your particular health, lifestyle, and ticking goals.

So you're not sure they are now? I'm confused.

Look, you're certainly not going to do your body or brain any harm by moderating your beer consumption. And if doing so makes your wife happy it might also relieve her stress about the issue, which could have its own side benefits in terms of your overall chances of getting pregnant. I just don't know that you should put too much stock in the idea that your drinking less = better odds at conceiving. As long as you keep your consumption at a fairly moderate level, which it sounds like you probably do already, I think you'll be OK. As others have suggested, you might be overthinking this a bit.

Kind of off topic, but substitute "drank" with "spent," and you'll see your money in a completely different way.

I limit my intake because alcoholism runs in my family, but I don't go by calculations. If I think I want a beer, I have a glass of juice or water first. Sometimes that'll make me feel full enough that I no longer want a beer. If I still want a beer, then 1 beer max on weeknights, abv is usually below 6%. If I want high abv beer on weekends, I let myself have 2. Otherwise, as many session beers as I want on weekends (usually falls in the 3-5 range), but for every beer I drink, I have a glass of juice/water first.

And one more thing, when your wife does get pregnant and those hormones really start to kick in, there won't be enough beer to get you through it.

    (1) Yes, I limit my beer consumption. Usually on purpose (so's I don't get drunk) but sometimes it's too late and my brain shuts down completely.

    (2) Simple - I just don't drink a lot. I don't have addictive tendencies (no, really!) so I handle it just fine, thank you!!

If yer tryin to make babies, relax, have some beers and let nature take it's course!

The best way to limit intake is to simply not have a lot of beer in the house. If you go out a lot where there's decent beer on tap, then don't keep any beer in the house.

I'm like others here - at a point in my life (age 36) where I have no interest in getting "hammered", I just like a nice buzz. So even if I have a lot of beer in the house (like now, 30+) it's usually pretty easy to limit to 2-3 without even thinking about it.

We recently just started trying so there is no problem yet (at least that I know of). Alcohol may not be a factor at all in conceiving (I'm not a doctor) but just to be safe I monitor my intake just a little more than before. Just like someone would train for a marathon before running one, I'm just trying to promote a more healthier me which in turn could (I'm not saying does) promote a healthier baby.

I limit strictly for caloric and carb reasons. I used to drink a different beer everyday just to try every one in the world... Now I'm 80lbs lighter and trying to keep my pseudo-6 pack at least for summer.

I drink every night and it's only because I enjoy a nice brew nightly after my son is already asleep. I drink in moderation throughout the week, usually one to two tops. My only day to really drink excessive (which I don't do really anyways) is Sunday because my wife works 6 days a week and she works nights, Sunday is our only fully free day.. Plus, I'm with you, I don't enjoy being more than a little buzzed. IMO Craft Beer is meant to be enjoyed in moderation, it's not meant to be pounded down.

I assumed he was saving some to share with the baby. Only a selfish parent would deprive his child.

I don't really get it either. If having kids involved equations and fasting from beer I don't think anyone would drink or have sex.

Not for me. I watch my money meticulously, and I'm well aware of how each of my habits fits in to my expenses (and I embrace it). For many people, though, you're absolutely right; you'd be amazed at how many smokers, or coffee drinkers, or, yes, beer drinkers, have no idea how much they spend every week, month, or year.

Not much, if at all. However, it does affect shape and motility.

So beer has the same impact on sperm as it does on us grownups?

Dude, as a man with healthy kids and being healthy myself, you do not need to cleanse your sperm. Your tea tipping wife is pulling one over your closed eyes. Drink up.
