When you have local breweries like Westbrook, Holy City, and COAST, that is a resounding YES!

I try to drink local as often as possible, but also enjoy beers from all around the world. Newburgh Brewing Co. is 10 minutes from my house, so I usually always have a growler of something from them in my fridge. If you're in the Newburgh area, try their winter spruce porter. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Actually that material (steel, aluminum, etc) has to be mined, milled, and processed before it become an alloy, so unless your machine shop had a mine and mill out back it's not local.

ahh very true, we did make some specialty steel though. so yea we still did not mine it, good catch......its early still.
I guess I was proud to be able to make a blank of steel into something....silly me.

I guess even those that grow the plants, require seed and the earth and rain, and something to fertilize it. its hard to make anything withOut the raws, lol

but you are so right. and so was jess.

Hops are mainly grown in the PNW. Barley is grown in many places in the northern states. It is only malted in a few places, though. If anyone knows of a malt house next a hop field, let me know.

Local for me means Peticolas Velvet Hammer, Revolver Blood and Honey, Lakewood Temptress (and Bourbon Barrel Temptress), and Community Mosaic IPA. All fantastic options that I will occasionally take, but I like to try things I haven't tried before, and some of my favorite brews are decidedly not local.

I make sure to at least try local stuff. But if it's not that good, too expensive, etc. I'm not going to support them just because they are close to where I live.

Just tried a new local brewery's flagship lager, for instance. At $5 a bomber we're off to a bad start, but then it was crazy brett infected. Next.

I live here, too. What a pity, huh? So many choices, so little time. Frankly, I don't know what to try next, but the bigger craft guys are for the most part very good. A definite west coast area style.

Hops are grown near Poperinge down in the SW of Belgium. I don't know where the maltings are in Belgium.

Germany has malt and hops grown not so far apart, but Bamberg (2 maltsters) is about and hour or so from the splat and hersbrucker regions.

Here in MI there is a maltster in Mt. Pleasant in the midldle of the mitten. The small hop farms are more along the west side and up by traverse City. So that puts them a couple hours drive apart.

I always make an effort to drink local when traveling...which is how I came across some of my favorite breweries / beers (i.e. New Glarus, 3 Floyd's and others)

I don't live near you, and you don't live near me. Around here, when locals say "local restaurant", they refer to one that has locally produced ingredients. Out of towners refer to a restaurant within our immediate area. "most people" are the locals. The minority are the out of towners.

I can assure you that there aren't many "dissapointed" people around me when they define local restaurant.

Love to sample what the world has to offer, but..............

I am 10 - 15 minutes from Fathead's, Brew Kettle, Great Lakes, and half hour from Hopping Frog & Thirsty Dog

These and a half dozen draft without national distribution places that kick out excellent beer.

    Hell yeah I drink local!!!

Eat Local means EVERYTHING. Combine it with drink local is just a bonus, but the locally sourced impact with food is definitely much greater.

Kudos to your Uncle for doing it right!

Local to me is beer made from the 6 New England states. Some of the breweries arent the best but they are decent enough and I will always give them a shot.
