Just curious if any of you homebrewers have a "name" for your beer, like a brand name. I'm also wondering if you name the individual beers you brew..

I do. My "brand" is Humbletron Hobby Brewery. Most of the beer names are based on the inspiration for the individual beers. From time to time there is a forum post asking for ideas, tell us your beer names, or something like that. Recently there was this forum discussion.

I put a name in promash when I formulate the recipe. It is usually descriptive but sometimes just reflective of the mood I'm in. There are many recipes in there with names like "<my wife> has a sweet pooper" or "It's a fucking dubbel. Leave me alone."

Promash also has functions to record the brew session specifics and there is a spot for a brewer and assistant brewer. Naming an assistant brewer can also be mildly amusing. Lot's of "Voices in my head" or Satan's right elbow, etc.

My brother and I called our's Second Story Brewery. We store the carboys on the 2nd floor of my two flat. We also name the individual beers (well, we've only done one so far, but on Sunday we are brewing a Saison and a Stout.) We called our first batch of a Scotch Ale "Piper Down" after a bit in the movie So I Married An Ax Murderer. We'll probably continue to play around with movie references when naming the actual beers. I'm thinking maybe "Short Round Stout" (Temple of Doom reference) for one.

With few exceptions, I just use the style on my tap handles but I will name the beer for Promash. Hefe Grande (my strong hefeweizen), rye wit is a wit brewed with wheat and rye, Happy Wife Ale are a few of the beers I have named.

The Humbletron Hobbey Breweries greatest hits have been,

"Don't Taste Me Bro" IIPA (referring to the nut that got tased at the John Kerry rally.
"Randy Watson's Sexual Chocolate" Milk Stout from one of the funniest movies of all time.
Yeasty Boys...It's Time to Get "Ale"
Dark Helmet's Belgian Raspberry Dunkelweizen (Spaceballs)
Dwight Club's Beet Down Alt (The Office)
Frank Buckles Liberty Ale (look him up)

Like pets and children, they are easier to get rid of when they don't have names.

I actually only name the beer that I label. For my wedding I have some usual suspects (something borrowed, something brewed; white veil ale; black tie stout) and I have a RIS I named zombie apocalypse that I've been working on the labels for a few weeks in Photoshop.

Love the "Short Round Stout" idea.
My buddy and I did a string of Star Wars theme names:
    JedI.P.A.
    Episode 4: A Brew Hope
    Empire Strikes Bock
    Aldarron Ingredients

We came up with a lot more names, but haven't made the beers for them....Yet.

disclaimer: naming other peoples' beers is not my strong suit : ) Cheers

I named my first beer "Drain Pour." It wasn't much of a hit honestly.

no name brand. but yes, I name them. Blogging would be silly if I just numbered them, and wouldn't distinguish them from the commercial beers I like to write about either.

my beers have a name, but its just an abbreviation and not clever. i can not recall ever having given a brew a proper name.

i use two or sometimes three letters. the first is the yeast, so i have A for Ardenne, then the dominant hop, H for Hallertau and i might add a third for the second hop if it has one.

i write the name AHT on the cap with a fine sharpie and i know its one its one of those Ardenne Hallertau Tettnang brews, for example. i also try to rotate cap colors for each beer. if im curious ill go back to my notes to review the recipe though i usually have it fairly well thought out.

that's it. my beers have a dumb three letter name. im lazy. lame.

When I first started homebrewing ~3 years ago I used to name every batch - and make a corresponding label. Then I started kegging, got lazy, and now I only name my 'special edition' brews - sours, strong ales, wedding/birthday beers, etc.

For the rest, I usually just name them something descriptive, e.g. "Tequila barrel wheatwine" or "Thai-spiced witbier". These beers usually go straight to the keg, but if I do bottle them they'll get the generic label (pretty bare-bones, with fields for IBU, SRM, ABV etc.). The ones I name I'll usually do custom labels and better bottling presentations (wax / cork and cage).

I will for wedding beers or gift beers. I've only got 2 beers (out of maybe 75-100) named. The rest are bastard children.

I name everything. Sometimes I can't come up with a name, and it gets something random. Sometimes the name is well thought out. Sometimes the name is come up with before the beer is.

Yes, my wife and I come up with names for all of our beers but we don't name our meads, ciders, or graffs. Most of our names are sexual or fecal-related. We have a strange sense of humor.

My 'brand' is Camel's Hump Brewery, for the mountain whose shadow I live in. Individual beers usually just get descriptive names unless they are for gifts, weddings, etc. For example, I made an Old Thumper clone for a wedding in July, naturally named 'Old Humper' (2 pigs on this label). Most of the names I dish out would not get label approval if I was a commercial brewer.
